The Premier League states that we can have a total of 25 named players and 8 must be home grown in the squad

At the moment we have 31 names which can fill 25 shirts so either we must loan out 6 players or sell them, therefore if we bring in a striker, midfielder and defender we will have 3 more that must go!!

That is the reason we shall never see Dos Santos play for us again he has to go and so does one other striker.. Harry Kane can knock in as many as he likes but the problem is he wont play in the prem !

Goalkeepers
Brad Friedel, Heurelho Gomes, Carlo Cudicini,Ben Alnwick

We have 4 keepers one has to go, and it may be either Cuddles or Alnwick but we cant register all 4 keepers!

We need at least one keeper out!!

Defenders
Alan Hutton, Gareth Bale, Younes Kaboul, William Gallas, Kyle Naughton, Sebastien Bassong, Michael Dawson, Vedran Corluka, Ledley King, Kyle Walker
Benoit Assou-Ekotto, Bongani Khumalo

Bongo and Kyle Naugton are loaned leaving 10 first team defenders

Midfielders
David Bentley, Tom Huddlestone, Aaron Lennon, Jermaine Jenas, Rafael Van der Vaart, Wilson Palacios, Luka Modric, Niko Kranjcar, Danny Rose, Jake
Livermore, Sandro, Steven Pienaar

12 midfielders

Strikers
Roman Pavlyuchenko, Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch, Giovani Dos Santos, Jermain Defoe

5 Strikers

Levy and Redknapp have a massive blockage growing in the club, to not register the players will set off the same problems seen at Shitty over the past few weeks.

I can see a fire sale comming towards the end of the transfer window and some really late loan outs..

My guess will be

Alnwick, Bentley, Dos Santos, Keane, Hutton and possibly Livermore or Rose could be back out again.. Even Walker depending on signings comming in!!

This is the Mess that Commoli left us in! With big contracts and no one wanting to buy the buggers!

All players have big contracts if they're under the age of, say, 28.

It's not Comolli, it's the whole system. And I'm no man to defend Comolli that's for sure.

Pretty sure Rose and Walker don't count as part of the 25 man squad as they are under 21.

But yeah the players we need to get rid of are Hutton, Keane, Bentley and Dos Santos. That gets us down to the 25 (27 in total with Rose and Walker). 24 if you assume we won't register all 4 keepers.

From there you have the players like Jenas, Bassong, Palacios, Kranjcar, Crouch and Defoe who will probably operate on a one in one out policy.

As I've said elsewhere though, having players sitting in the squad who aren't registered simply isn't an option that Levy can take. It's too much wasted cash in the wages department.

3 'keepers and 4 strikers leaves room for 9 defenders and 9 midfielders plus youngsters. That's a significantly smaller squad than we've been used to since Santini took the helm.

It appeals to my organisational nature, but not to my fear of injuries.

In the old days clubs would have small squads and then youngsters would get a chance in the case of injuries. What the fuck's wrong with that scenario?! It's win win if the kid takes his chance.

I have to admit that I am not sure if Rose and Walker will count and I am not sure if the under 21 rule applies this season, perhaps someone could link to the actual rule allowing players that a not registered with in the 25, to play as it appears that the rule may ache changed. I am not sure of this. But Spurs have a problem and it will get mode difficult as we approach the start of the season.

Tking out Rose and Walker we still have 4 players too many.. And if we bring in 3 players it will get very congested.

The rules
“From 2011/2012, the rules will allow any combination of players that includes 25 players who are registered to the Premier League.”

“This rule also allows the club to use the U-21 players outside the 25 players who registered.”

So Kane can play

It was Spurs which pushed the Premier League to sanction a seven man subs bench. Yet on at least two occasions last season Spurs had two keepers on the bench rather than importing a youth player for the whole match day experience and possibly discovering an exciting uninhibited talent from within our ranks.

The Football League Chairmen have voted to revert back to a five man bench meanwhile for next season which means the Clubs don't have to carry big squads.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if, instead of pursuing these Champions League=dreaming players costing stupid money ( think of 38 and that's just a small pithy number - think of it in terms of millions and WTF?) we give our most promising kids a chance.

I rake your point, but what bothers me is that we have all these fantasy ideas about who is coming in to play, yet we are log jammed. I am certain that if a top quality player became available at the right price then would take him in a heart beat. But I can't see Keane moving, he is better off sitting out his contract and then playing for a few clubs in his swan song rather than risk a move for less money, Bentley is the same and I am sure Dos Santos is a similar problem.

Levy will have a problem as the lower perm clubs tend to shy away from big transfers and opt for Bosmans or fire sales and then offer big wages to get the man.

I hope Keane moves I would hate to see the start of the season with him not registered to play.
