Converted Olympic Stadium

I went to see the Rugby League game between England and the Kiwis at the Olympic Stadium yesterday, so got a taste of what it's going to be like once West Ham occupy it.

Have to say I'm very glad we didn't get the stadium. It's probably alright in the first tier near to the pitch, but we were behind the goal in the second tier and there's a massive gap between the first tier and the second tier seats where the track is. Makes you feel like you're in a completely different venue. Also, the screen on the far side wasn't really big enough to watch the action when it was at the far end. I think West Ham will do a very good trade in binoculars. In fact, I'm tempted to buy a batch of cheapo ones and stand outside the stadium and sell it to the Spammers as they trickle in. It really was that bad.

Atmosphere wasn't that good either, but that could have more to do the poor match.

Anyone else experienced the stadium as a converted venue yet?

But they'll have scaffold seats closer to the pitch won't they?

Don't get what the fuss is about... It's not like they can fill the 1st tier let alone worry about the 2nd. :ROFLMAO:

The fuss really is that they are getting it for £2M a year (less if you take into account the operating costs being covered) and yet we're been asked for at least £20M to set up in Wembley for a year.

We never wanted the stadium, we wanted the land and transport links. We would've destroyed that abomination of a stadium and ended the taxpayers forking out to appease some absurd legacy goal.

Don't know...will they?...will make it very hard to convert back to an athletics track quickly if they do. And if they do, they may as well not bother with the stadium, as 3/4 of the seats will be on scaffolding.

Seats on scaffolding, way to go spammers really taking the health & safety of your fans to a new level. I recall being at an event with scaffold seating and it was like a rollercoaster ride.

Yep - i think it was estimated that all the services they aren't paying for on match days (policing, stewards, maintenance etc) adds up to about £2m a year, so basically they are getting the ground for free and the prats at WHU and LLDC can't understand why people aren't happy about that.

Seating plan for Spam City. Looks incredibly bad behind the goal. Wonder how long the novelty will last.

Looks totally disjointed. Massive spaces between the inner and outer rings. If you're in the outer ring you'll probably need a pair of binoculars to watch the proceedings, while in the inner ring you'll probably be exposed to the elements...
But at least there are excellent transport links in case you feel the need to leave early

Those seats behind the goal are almost a full pitch's length away from the pitch. In fact the only areas where you'd be anywhere near the pitch are right in the corners. That away section looks nowhere near 10% of capacity.

I hope it buries them.

Edit: oh god is their supporters group called the 1966 club?! How can a clubs most impressive achievement have nothing to do with them?

question...the grey areas are 'covered'...is the rest uncovered? I thought 'the tax payer' had paid for a roof???

I want my money back!

Went past it on the train a week or so ago and it looks unbelievably dull.
