So Defoe reckons he's alright, The Sun say he's fractured his ankle and The Daily Fail say it's ligaments... hmm... I'll wait for the official site before worrying!

Presuming the Daily Mail is right and Defoe is out for 6 weeks, how best can we cope with his absence?

Start playing 1 up top like at Stoke?

Stick with 4-4-2 and pray that Keane rediscovers his touch or that Pav develops some consistency?

Hide under a pile of coats in a dark room and hope it all works itself out?

I think 1 up top is probably the way to go. Sounds a bit daft I know as we've struggled to score goals in our 2 home EPL games this season, but its probably the only way to accomodate all of our midfield talent, which is undoubtedly our strongest area.

Mods - by all means merge this with the 'Defoe out for 6 weeks' thread.

He was going to have an op anyway. We have Keane, Pav, VDV & GDS who could all play up front.

Plus with VDV on board there is hopefully an increased chance of playing one up front. We certainly have the midfield players to accomodate such a system.

I'd certainly prefer Defoe to be fit, as I rate him as our best striker, but Crouch, Pav and Keane are great options to have if needed.

Makes an awful lot of sense what D.P. says. I'd go for that.

Don't like the idea of Crouch up on his own. We do seem to try and knock it long for him and unfortunately he's not the best header of the ball. Tbh I don't know if Keane or Pav would do better on their own either. Keane will get frustrated in not getting the ball and will drop deeper and Pav would just stand there. I'll take the brave way out and leave it to Harry

Holy crud, Spurs have 7 games in the next 21 days!!!

Looks to test the depth of the squad early in the season. $HITE, not too much recovery time involved. Defoe and Dawson out... FUQ
