Does anyone care to remember that we needed him to block up that area of the pitch so lennon could have some freedom. It's only because lennon is more diligent that we can afford walker in the team. Great player for us, locked down plenty of very good opponents in a way that only he and king could and produced his best time and again.
We just evolved away from needing his specific skill set. He goes with my thanks and best wishes.

He played well; excellent cross for the equaliser, two or three good interceptions.
Certainly not out of place.
Barcelona were clearly watching our performance against Newcastle and have picked up one or two tips.

corluka looked ok but did his usual pass the ball back when he could have passed it forwards but i guess playing against barca he did a good job and his work to get the cross in was brill.

I still think Coruka is a good player. Composed, reads the game well and has sound positional sense. Yes he lacks pace but still a good player.

Would have him over Hutton any day of the week.

Very honest interview there, said it like it is.

Agree with Mr Pink.

I'd sooner have Stalteri than Hutton any day of the week. Bloody hell, I'd sooner have Kelly than Hutton any day of the week.

Corluka's far too good a player to sit on our bench or just about anyone else's, and since it's clear we've decided—correctly—that Walker's the way to go he's not going to get too many opportunities at RB. There was the suggestion he could be an effective DM, but again, he's never going to be first choice, and for some reason he just doesn't really cut it at CB.

Well, yes, but he's a classy international RB whose only real drawback is a lack of pace. He's not a Wayne 'The Brain' Bridge who's happy to rake in the readies for turning up at training, he wants to play regularly, and who can blame him?

Yeah he is too good to be warming our bench and I agree at CB, for us anyway, he's always looked pretty shaky.

He's a talented defender, who was brilliant for us once upon a time, but this season and last saw a dramatic dip in form.

He started making mistakes defensively that he never used to make, and his forward play was lacking the quality we're used to seeing. He and Lennon used to rip it up in 09/10.

I always thought he was the perfect foil for Lennon ! He's a quality full back and doesnt deserve the stick he used to get, all because he was perceived as slow !

I think in the champs league next year we could do with him in the team. That said in sure he won't be happy to play second fiddle so probably beat he leaves and we get some money for him.

I thought that too, but Walker has also proved that Lennon can play with a fast overlapping fullback.

Which says a lot about young Aaron has come on as a footballer. He used to be brainless at times. Utterly brainless. Not only is his end product much better but tactically he's come on too.

He suddenly had a succession of injuries, though, and he'd played a hell of a lot of football over the previous three seasons, so it perhaps wasn't a surprise that his form became erratic.

The frequent cutting inside by Lennon, swapping of Bale and Lennon, and addition of guys like Parker and Sandro in the middle has helped young Mr. Walker assimilate. Were it not for all of those factors coming into play, Walker may not have been the right answer so soon and Corluka may have been the RB.

As others have said here and in the past, these are human beings and not statistics. Young guys at that. I will never blame them for wanting to play on the field once they've proven themselves valuable. I hope he does well and get regular playing time and, in the process, ups his value for Spurs.

Some of you aren't giving him enough credit. He could more than hold his own, even at Tottenham. In came along a very good, young, English player in Walker, who is a more modern full back and one who fits in very well in the current setup. That's why he's not there anymore. Not because he "isn't good enough."

He's not as slow as he looks. If he was, he wouldn't be playing at the level he has all these years or participated in the tournaments he has. People forget that after Hutton was getting abused by Ashley Young in a game vs. Villa, it was Corluka who was brought on and who subsequently defended him very well. It's not like he gets beat for pace that often. He has good positional sense.

He looks lumbering (he runs on his heals) and he definitely isn't as fast as Walker. But he's not a clown either. He's a very good and capable player.

Some of you are making it out as if this is the first time he's played against top competition and/or top players. It certainly isn't.

Well remembered on the A Young match. Very good point

saw parts of last night's game and thought he put in an excellent cross for their goal, despite very little space.

I always felt confident that Corluka would clear and danger playing for us. He didn't have pace, no, (though he wasn't as slow as people seem to think, just awkward running), but he spotted danger early and was always composed enough to do the right thing. He had a good working relationship with Lennon and gave him the freedom to do what he wanted to do. Hutton couldn't do that. The rest of the team now are much quicker getting back to defend when necessary, so a fast RB like Walker is perfect for our game.
I still have a soft spot for Charlie though. He is/was a good player, but our style of play has changed, and Walker suits it better.
