With Hutton about to be fit, we now have a choice of two right backs who might be regarded- or regard themselves- as natural first team players.

I was always impressed by Hutton- a proper defender, whose timing of tackles is good. Gets forward well too but often in a slightly aimless way- cuts inside and looses possesion.

But Corluka is even better- strength and skill, adds height to the defence and seems to be impossible to get past or get the ball off.
Good going forward and could get even better if he gets a bit bolder- moving forward with the ball, they are struggling to tackle him- he could shoot more from there or at least create chances like the one he created for Keane in the first half on Saturday.

So Corluka gets my vote. Perhaps we could have a poll- who knows how to create one?

Talking of which, why do we have a poll for Man of the Match for some games and not others? Can we have one for every game please?

We also have shi..Chimbonda :shifty:

I would say Corluka is the better defender, but Hutton IMO is a better all round player, he is quicker and i would say better at going forward, both will be used depending on who we are up agaisnt, just like when we used Zokora at RB to cope with pace, and even though colruka came on and did a job better i think hutton would have been the player picked to play in that situation!

Both good players and glad both are here, too close to call but both should and hopefully will get time on the pitch! especialy if King and/or woodgate need rested at times as corluka could drop into CD with one of them or dawson

I think Charlie is a better CB than RB due to his pace. He is so good on the ball though he can play all over the shop. Hutton for me once fully match fit and playing regularly is a top class RB, whether he is given the chance here remains to be seen though

It is a great situation to have 2 quality, international right backs.

I'm going with Charlie. It's not all about pace at right back, I think he proved that against Young where the positional side of his game more than made up for the lack of speed. Corluka also has a great touch, showing that he can romp through defenses himself. I like Hutton too though, and as Jonboy said, it's great to have competition for the position.

I want Corluka as CB Cover and for Redknapp to do the inevitable and sign Johnson to compete with Hutton at RB. I wouldn't be surprised if Chimbonda was sold agian (if he can so soon after joining)

It's clear as day to me that Corluka could be a world class CB if he was played there regularly, he has ledley type skills with the ball at his feet, incredibly comfortable on the ball but when playin RB you can see that he is almost a little hesitant to get forward at times and does appear to lack a final ball when crossing from wide.....having said that, like Woody, Daws and Ledders he DOES have an excellent long pass in his locker as well. To look at him, size and style wise, he is clearly a centre half.

As for Alan Hutton, he showed a lot of good quality in his first season at the club, like Bale, once he can have another good pre-season and stay fit, he should really be our 1st choice RB.

Corluka for me too.

But I do think there will be games/opponents that we would be better suited in playing Hutton. Corluka does have a lack of pace and acceleration.

Alan Hutton really wasn't very good last season. Decent getting forward, but poor defensively and hasn't been any better in his short amount of games for us this season.

That said, he is definitely good enough to be a backup to the mercurial Corluka who has a touch of silk and real intelligence with his passing.

That is, if he can sort himself out.

Corluka all day long, even though he's not a natural RB his technique is massively superior to Hutton's, he's a much better footballer. Defensively I reckon he's probably been more solid for us too.

That reminds me of a rant I meant to have.

Hoddle as a pundit calling our players Corluka (as in cor blimey) and Modric (ending in the k sound in kick rather than the ch sound it should be).

I'ts bone lazy, ignorant and disrespectful Mr Huddle.

Hutton for me. Charlie doesn't offer enough going forward, although he is better defensively.

Corluka's deft little through balls to Aaron on the edge of the box has been one of the features of our revival. he really knows how to use the little fella's pace. Hutton is a great overlapping RB but when you've got pace on the wing, do you need your RB to overlap with pace?

I reckon Hutton and Bentley would be a good combo though..

at beating up dads? hutton. at football it has to be corluka.
For those of you who didn't vote for Hutton, I just hope he doesn't know where you live! He obviously has a screw loose and I don't mean in his leg. Hasn't he become 'sicknote's' replacement yet? He must have been unavailable for more games than he's been available for by now. I'd have him fourth choice behind Zokora at the moment.

Its a myth that Corluka doesn't offer anything going forward, he has been involved in a few of our best goals this season.

Hutton is just quicker, that doesn't mean he offers more.
