Could Bent surprise us next season?

We have added considerable creativity to our midfield/attack with dos Santos and Modric, could Bent be the man to benefit the most?

Berbatov and Keane are obviously first choice, but both of them look to come and get the ball, be involved in link up play. They get a lot of goals for sure, but I wouldnt call either of them penalty box predators, although they are very good finishers.

Could this be where Bent comes in? A man who is always in the penalty box, looking to get on the end of crosses, through balls and rebounds? I cant see Berbatov or Keane being content with having three touches a game, even if they all result in a goal. Perhaps Bent will find a way into the team, at least against lesser opposition

Yeah, Bent is our only real out and out striker and i hope we keep him. There are a lot of games next season again, and if Bent stays then he'll get plenty of action. We'll need to rest Keane and Berbatov throughout the season anyway. I like the thought of 3 strikers in Keane, Berbatov and Bent with Giovani acting as a 4th striker but mostly playing out on the wing. Plus, Bent would be a great player to bring off the bench and inject pace into a game. He's certainly a good option for us.

Yeah i have said this on occasions recently as well. I do reckon he will stay this season, despite being linked with Sunderland.

Certainly he could suit a system with 5 in midfield and him up front or a 4-4-2 with him and Berba upfront, leaving Berba to link the play up.

Our recent additions could really help a player of Bents style work a lot more effectively in front of goal.

Though equally you have to say Berba and Keane is an excellent partnership, but with Keane form dipping from January onwards its good to think we can adapt our play for whoever goes upfront

i think your right krafty, berba & keane make most of there goals themselves and stand out due to the lack of creativity in midfield which in turn has a knock on effect on bent when he plays as his game is all about service, if you take the hudd out who's not a 1st team starter none of the main midfielders have any creative technique or guile so the addition of the dos & modric will be a god send & like xmas to bent plus berba & keano will have a couple more people on their wave lengths in the final third of the pitch able to cause havoc..

Bent and Keane can certainly work if need be, but they would not be as successful as Berbatov and Keane. If we can keep all 3, and keep them happy then I would have no complaints.

He wouldn't surpise me. He is clearly a goal threat and I don't believe any striker on the planet would've done better than he has from being 3rd choice and not having a single run of games, including very few starts. Plus there already appears to be an improvement in personnel to provide service.

So in short, I expect him to score more, but it won't surprise me.

his goals per minutes on the pitch ratio is about as good as anyone's

helps if you put minutes, starts and a run of games into the equation to get some perspective.

In the right side, playing the right football, Bent will score 20 a season....

Bent will score more only if Berbatov leaves and we don't have a better replacement.

I can't see us satisfied with a starting pair of Keane and Bent. They may both contribute 20 goals/season with Modric but that isn't good enough.

We need to maintain our fire power upfront to have any chance of CL football next season.

I don't think it would be a surprise if he scored 15+ goals. Obviously that is dependant on him actually starting most games. When you consider he scored 18 and 14 for a crappy Charlton side and then hit 6 in just 1189mins of playing time for us (a goal every 189 mins), in a side that wasn't at all set up to suite his style of play largelly, then it shouldn't come as a surpirse if he scores alot in a team with Modric and maybe a DM who can hit an early through ball or ball over the top. Defoe had a very similar scoring rate to Bent in his last 2 full seasons for us and he also would have been better served by having more players who can play him in behind the defence. Excluding penalites Defoe score every 245 mins in 2005/6 and every 275 mins in 2006/7. Whilst Berba and Keane both had much better records, but that is largelly becasue our build up play is often slow, so it suites the likes of Keane and berba more than Bent or Defoe, who use pace more in their games and thus like to be released quickly.

He got as many shots on target as Berbatov, and put away a higher proportion than Defoe managed for two-and-a-half seasons. In terms of goals per minute, there's little to choose between him, Keane and Berbatov.

But please don't let facts get in the way of you spouting your inimitable brand of bollocks. In your case, less means less.

:stupid: Wouldn't you rather he scored them for us?

25 in the league is maybe overdoing it a tad (you pay Torres money for that privilege), but he's perfectly capable of 15-20.

Agree with all of this. Bent is a very decent player. He would start more games with most other Premiership teams - I think except for us, manu, chel$ki and the red mickey mousers, Bent would start for the majority of others' games (and yes at the moment I think he would start for the arsescum most times as well)

Last season he was unfortunate to have compete with Berba and Defoe to play alongside keane, but when Bent came on he scored goals and generally played quite well.

With Modric, Gio and (hopefully a rested and revitalised) Lennon I can see us adopting a slightly different playing style with Bent involved and us playing a 5 man midfield on away games (or 4-4-1-1).

I think we could see Bent grab 15-20 goals in all competitions if he is given the chance.

Watch this space.................... errrr no, watch that space over there :stupid:
