If we signed the following, would it be good enough for top4?
I just feel for everyone we've been linked with our midfield mabye has to be the priority as even if we got a top class GK and CB AND kept or replaced Berby i look at the midfield and EVEN with Modric think hmm not quite good enough and certaintly not strong enough, would play quite beautiful football though.

-------------------------COUPET-------------------------

----Hutton--------Woodgate------DUNNE--------Bale------

----Lennon--------Zokora---------MODRIC-------CAPEL*--

------------------Berbatov--------Keane-----------------

7 subs:
Alnwick
Dawson
Gunter
Malbranque
Huddlestone
DOS SANTOS :):):):)*Proably wouldn't sign both.
Bent

Looks a quite fantastic side but would it be quite good enough to get top4. I believe it could however the midfield may be too lightweight but we may compensate for that by playing very fast fluid attacking exciting SPURS football.

O blimey the future is exciting. Really hope we do well this summer. Very excited by Modric but the Likes of Coupet and Dunne if possible would be very very solid experienced important signings and then one other star i.e Capel or Dos Santos, Berby decides he wants to give it 1 more year and yep just fainted!

That team looks to light weight for me. there is a complete lack of experience on the left, both players cant tackle. Far to much work for Zokora in a two man midfield, with an ACM and two wingers. The formation would have to change

...................Coupet

Hutton Woodgate King Assou-Ekotto

Lennon Jenas Modric Zokora Bale
................Berbatov.................

hmm a decent idea however just can't ever see a spurs side without Keaneo at least for another 2-3 seasons. He's been fantastic lately!

Mabye play a form of 4-3-3 replace Lennon with a Strong DM and play Berby,Keane and Modric in a kind of 3. with modric playing just off them 3 CMS of Zokora,Jenas and say Diarra with Bale going to LB.

intresting to see how the signings fit into Ramos ideas.

If we're going to play Modric in the middle (which our pursuit of Capel suggests we will) then we need a proper defensive midfielder alongside him or else we'll get ripped to shreds.

Sadly we don't possess that sort of defensive midfielder at the moment. JJ is more keen to go forwards and Zokora's positioning isn't good enough to actually be the holding player we'd need alongside Modric.

Isn't that a bit arrogant to use only 10 players in your starting line up?
dos Santos may mean "two Saints" but he still only count as "un Santo"/one Saint/one player...

Would like to see Makoun in the middle holding it all together in a 442

Coupet
Hutton Woodgate King/Kaboul Bale
Lennon Makoun Modric Capel/Dos Santos
Keane Berba

Makoun would be perfect for us, I know some of you will  or indeed  at the thought of Kaboul in our side, however, I feel that, playing alongside Woodgate or King, he would grow in stature from game to game, he has potential. The worry for me, however, is more the left hand side, especially if Modric is the left CM and Woodgate is the right CB, we'd probably need Woodgate to play left CB or Makoun left CM or both, as Hutton can handle the defensive side of his game and Bale struggles.

I hate this top 4 rubbish. If people stopped thinking the top 4 were light years ahead of everyone esle (fans, clubs, players, pundits, managers) then teams would eb able to step up a level, and pull the top 4 down a level, and it would be a lot more competitive.

With the team in the first post I would want a midfield leader instead of Zokora. A proven winner who is experienced and knows what he is doing, and then I think that team could beat a couple of top 4 teams often enough to finish above them come the end of the season.

Can't say i understand why people are sticking with lennon. His run fast do nothing play just doesn't work. I'd sell him for a start.

Also without sounding too negative I don't think its realistic to expect what could be a 60% new starting line up to gel so quickly and break into the top 4. However I do think we can win the UEFA and finish in the top 6.

EVEN after buying all the rumoured transfer targets i don't think we would be a top 4 side. We have a young skillful team with good pace but we don't have MATCH WINNERS. Look at the top 4 sides - there are at least 2-3 in each, the kind of players who break the deadlock in a tight game.

Our only proven match winner is Berbatov but it's doubtful we could hold onto him.

After the seaon we have just had Im really not thinking about breaking into the top 4! Even if we do sign the players we have been linked with over past few days fingers and everything else crossed that we sign at least one of them! I think we really need to add some experienced players with a winning attidued to the squad!

Also for next season players like Modric and maybe maybe Dos Santos and Capel will need a season to adapt to the premiership! So I hope come end of July/start of August there is not much talk of us being a top 4 team like last season and we can get on with start of season quietly without the hype & pressure on the team we have had at the start of the season of the past couple of years and then come christmas/ start of new year if we are up there and doing well then we can start to think about it!

To be honest I think that top 4 is likely to be beyond us, unless we're lucky - look at the squads, resources and results of those teams and compare them to ours...

We should be aiming to be "best of the rest" and to try and consolidate that - we let it slip a bit last year (for a number of reasons, I know - and it won't be a problem again as long as we don't let it slip again) and then to launch an attempt on the top 4 from there.... We're getting there - 3 years in a row in the UEFA is progress, but there's a long way to go....

How can you say your team isnt lightweight at the left with assou-ekotto there instead of bale? The guy is hardly experienced having played what? A handful of games. Lee at LB and Bale on the wing wouldnt be too bad.

ok how about this:
-----------------------------------COUPET----------------------------------------

----Hutton-------------Woodgate------------DUNNE-----------------Bale----------

----BENTLEY-----------MAKOUN-------------TIAGO--------------DOS SANTOS---

---------------------------MODRIC----------------------------------------------

--------------------------------------------KEANE-------------------------------

That might just work :)

True but the team hasn't & sometimes good individuals need to be sacrificed to improve the team & if we're going to be playing with players like Modric & Dos Santos, then imo that calls for a lone striker and a decent defensive midfield pairing...

No way

who would modric play balls over the top to? who would bentley/dos santos cross for?

Keane? no height OR pace?

There is no way he can play as a lone striker. I like Keane as much as the next guy, but i we're thinking of lone strikers without Berbatov, then it has to be Bent, because he's proven he can do it.

How about not Coupet, for starters?

We had a totally spurious link from Sky a couple of weeks ago, Sky having apparently just woken up to the fact that it's been common knowledge he was almost certainly going to be off at the end of this season. Naturally, this meant we were going to sign him! What could be more logical? We then had some joke ITK based on a Sun claim that he was on the verge of signing for us.

Last year he was talking about how he'd really like to head off to New York for a last big round-up in the MLS. And that, I suspect, is where he'll go.

You seriously think we'll give Tiago another chance after the way he and his agent twatted us about in January?

Back to the drawing-board.
