I can't see any particular tactics thread at the moment. Shoot me down in flames if there is and I've missed it.

Our shape is all wrong it seems. We just can't get the balance right between defence and attack with 3/5 at the back. No matter if it's 343 or 352. We're doing an awful lot of defending and, unlike last season we're not even doing that well. No part of the team- defence, midfield or attack - is seemingly set up to function at its best.

Could we not try 4231, even as a Plan C? Arguably we don't quite have the players for it yet, but the two obvious winter signings (ball playing CB and AM) would make it work, imo. These two signings need to be excellent passers and super comfortable on the ball. It seems doable, but is Conte too stubborn to try it?

Well, you are talking tactics requiring players we do not have. Not even sure what you have will work, as Lenglet is too slow to play in a back 4 and Romero is not disciplined enough IMO. Romero needs the cover that 3 CBs provides. I actually think Bent could play the 10 and Skipp could be in the rotation of the deeper CMs.

I realise it requires new signings but the two I've suggested seem likely enough, don't you think? And we desperately need an alternative to this turgid 5 at the back. I think Romero works in a back 4, but agree he needs to calm down a bit. Graham Roberts had similar issues but did v well in a back 4 (different times, I know..)

I like the idea of trying Bents as an all out AM but ..
A Has he got enough of an eye for the killer pass? Not sure that's his strength.
B We' d miss his composure in the engine room.
