Could the rumors of Dembele leaving in January be true?

As I'm sure many have you have already seen, there have been recent reports linking Mousa Dembele with a move away from White Hart Lane as soon as January.

In a recent article a quote of Dembele appeared stating his dissatisfaction with the current makeup of the midfield that has seen him feature much less than last season.

Unfortunately for Dembele, he seems to have recently lost his place at White Hart Lane, withAndre Villas-Boas telling Dembele he prefers the more defensive Paulinho, and Sandro in the midfield.

“I can not be satisfied with it, of course, I just want to play as many games,” said Dembele. “The coach explained that he makes a tactical choice, he wants more defensive players in midfield.”

Now, I understand Dembele has his shortcomings. He struggles with the final ball, he can blow hot and cold at times and I know we all wish he could show some better ability to strike the ball as he undoubtedly owns a powerful shot.

But Dembele presents us with a truly different skillset in midfield. Capable of tracking back and dispossessing opponents on a counter, he can boss the midfield alone with his ability to dance/dribble with ease around opponents and while he struggles with locating the final ball inside the box, his passing accuracy just about anywhere else on the pitch is of true value to the side as we continue to focus on a possession-based approach.

I would be livid if we sold Dembele in January by choice. I understand players can force their way out (See: Modric/Bale), but if we have any say in the matter, he should be here for the end of the season and for seasons to come.

For me, if I'm AVB I make a point to heavily rotate Dembele and Paulinho. I think they can work interchangeably as a starter/sub. For instance, having Dembele boss the midfield with a DM like Capoue/Sandro and should we find ourselves chasing a goal late, bring on Paulinho for more offensive force. In matches against lesser opponents, start Paulinho and hope that it results in a lead to which Dembele can be subbed on to see the match out with his better possession skillset.

For me, AVB needs to put his 4-3-3 into action rather than the more cautious 4-2-3-1.

Then, all these players we've bought can begin to perform, a midfield 3 consisting of 3 of Dembele, Sandro, Capoue, Paulinho and Holtby can demolish any other midfield in it's path, leaving the attacking/creative players we've bought to do just that.

If we lose Dembele it will be a crying shame.

Don't like that at all! Best hold-up player we have in midfield, can get past opponents and keep defences off-balance. Great player to have in the squad. Crazy!

He isnt as effective as sandro, paulinho or capoue. Albeit he has more talent than any of them. He just doesnt utilise the assets he possesses and he needs to mould them together to become a world class player. He is very similar in that respect to jenas. You are just screaming for him to get out for 3rd gear to realise his potential.

I would be disappointed if he left but he should be playing first choice somewhere. He would be superb in italy as slower pace would suit him.

Truth is....we dont need 4 top players competiting for 2 positions. At least one never gets enough game time to hit form or match fitness.

Dembele creative, really? i must have missed that bit in between dribbling nowhere and passing sideways.
DM should breaking up the play and giving the ball to the front 4.

Hope not.

Yes, I know it's YouTube, but look at the freedom Dembele has to bomb forward. He doesn't do that for us. Whether it's because he's out of his depth or not is a different story but something tells me he's under the managers instructions to stay back.

We need to allow him the licence to bomb forward and have Sandro as the holding player.

I think our rigid system and the fact that Paulinho appears undroppable are hindering his effectiveness.

Alongside Sandro or Capoue with a licence to move forward he'd be fine. Stuck between a rock and a hard place next to Paulinho, he has struggled.

I too am surprised we haven't gone to a more recognisable 4-3-3, it would suit more of our players and allow more fluidity and interchange IMO

Sure, if he is on the market, I bet some of our rivals will be interested.

I hope he doesn't go because I genuinely believe he is just on bad form right now, he's a great footballer otherwise than that. I kinda struggle to see where he would as well though. Perhaps abroad, but I can't see him going to a team better in the league.

In a perverse way it might be what we need, just like eriksens injury possibly opening the way for lamela to get a proper run in the team.

i hope so, kerching:)
Damn...you're a cashier as well as a better forward than Townsend! I don't think he's been used right under AVB. He held his own for us against all the big clubs last season, and when he was at Fulham, I remember him taking United apart on his own and getting the victory. He's been injured, should have had surgery, but we should still hang onto him IMO.

I would probably get more than 1 in ten goals and more than 0 assists:)
If dembeles injured and refusing surgery, then yes get rid.
He dosent look anything like the player from last season.

You wouldn't score and you wouldn't get an assist! Just like I wouldn't! Just let reality gently shake your hand! Is he refusing surgery?
