im starting to get a little hacked off with all the coverage of the final, at first it was great, i have my little pull out poster from the sun and read all about wendys tactical noggin wining the game, but now just 2 days on everywhere i look its all about how chelsea threw the game away, that it had nothing to do with us being on form, tactically astute and just plain fucking amazing, instead it appears that we only won because grant is a muppet and john terry had a game of handbags with that cat fella.

just fed up with the media's top four love in and feel that we deserve a bit of respect for our win

Had Chelsea had been on top form and Grant not had made some silly tatics - we may not have done as well as we did.

Live with it mate and enjoy the win.

Cheer up Frogtard

The record books will forever show Tottenham Hotspur as winners this season. All the press are trying to do is sensationalise this reported training ground bust up.

You kidding? Most of the UK press have been creaming themselves over Ramos and us. It's getting a bit much with the praise we've been getting actually, only a few articles on the major sites are underlying the supposed ineptitude of Grant.

I think press coverage has been very good to us, plenty good words on BBC and Sky about us. Also I use Goal.com for general European football news and there have been lots of good things about Ramos and Spurs on there.

The press coverage has been really good. I mentioned after we beat Arsenal that I'd prefer we play Chelsea in the final because we'd be underdogs and the neutrals would be on our side. And so it was. There were loads of people indifferent to Spurs who were beaming afterwards because we'd beaten Chelsea. Messageboards have been full of non-Spurs fans saying how great we were.

Of course, once the dust has settled, the press will do a post-mortem on Chelsea, because Chelsea are a bigger team than us. Not in terms of history or fans, but in terms of recent success. As far as Sky are concerned, if someone in the "big four" clubs even farts, it's Breaking News. So obviously, they are going to focus on Chelsea. Also, let's not forget that bad news is always bigger than good news. The cup final defeat has cast a lot of shadows over Grant's future, and so it's inevitable that there will be loads of stories about Chelsea.

Terry was quoted as saying that even on a bad day they should beat us.....the mistake they made is that they think they're that good and that we're not and they got both wrong.

The press report crashes, not good landings.

You certainly got that right :up:

You can understand why the press are saying what they are though in all fairness. We were NOT the favorites going into the match and on paper, they have a far superior team and squad so to some degree, I'm afraid there is some truth in what they are saying.

The media are not going to run the same story two days running - unless it involves the likes of Princess Di or Britney etc...

I too feel the media coverage has generally been positive.

Phase I: victory for the underdogs against the favourites;

Phase II: lots of good analysis about the spirit of the players, how Juande outcoached Grant, and about whether the famous Spurs, with all our history, can be a CL club again;

Phase III: media bored with good news stories so switches to Terry fighting with Ten Cate, the players disrespecting Grant, Chavski are falling apart. Plus a few jocular stories about how Ramos, Alvarez and Escribano got rid of the burgers and chips and replaced them with garlic & cointreau-laced baby food.

All fine by me.

And its quotes like that, that show why Gerrard is England captain, very ungratious in defeat. all somwhere elso i thought i read that he thought spurs were the better team, who cares he is still a pikey.

I kinda like how the press has seen it as simply a stepping stone for Spurs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm genuinely proud to have won the Carling Cup. Especially in the manner that we did it what with the 10-man victory over City (first home defeat for them?) and the thrashing of the Scum and the dominance over Chelsea.

But it's still just a stepping stone. We're off to bigger and better things.

Today the Carling Cup. UEFA Cup in May... League next May. Champions League May 2010. Ok, so maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.

Nevertheless, we should never forget this trophy. It's about a million times sweeter than 99 and I never forget that one either!
