Just thought I'd bring this to the attention of you without FourFourTwo this month.

Leandro Damiao made it into the 'Best 100 Players' section (at no. 100) and thusly had a little interview with the magazine. The last question is as follows:

You've been linked with a move to Europe, including Spurs. What are your plans?

I have to be honest - I'm not thinking about moving to Europe at all. I want to stay at Inter and be part of the club's history.

Now, obviously he is hardly going to declare his imminent move to Europe in FourFourTwo but I thought it was worth posting.

He thought they meant the 80's glam rock band of Final Countdown fame. He is on his way, don't worry.

I think it's a mistranslation. I read a similar story that said he wasn't thinking about moving at all right now, he's just thinking about making history with Inter.

He also comitted himself to staying at Inter for at least the duration of next years Libertadores campaign in the seasons final match on Sunday, so he won't be going anyway this Jan IMO.

Apart from getting Sandro, how are we benefitting from this 'partnership' with Inter?

Genuine question.

Isn't the Brazilian season over now? I hope we're making the right moves now rather than waiting till January.

My understanding of it is that we get first refusal on any players they are selling. But that doesn't mean that we get to buy their players at 30%+ below market value.

I imagine if we bid the £25m they are asking for in Jan, and agree to let him stay till the end of their Libertadores campaign he'd be ours.

Not sure. I could just as easily ask how they are benefiting from it as well though?

There doesn't seem to be much in it, but I doubt it costs us much, if anything.

I'm always sceptical about the concept of right of first refusal too - what does that even mean? The player can always just refuse, it's effectively meaningless

Yep finished on Sunday, Inter came 5th, if we're serious about him then you're right we should be tying this up before Xmas.

Of course the player can, but the point is that if we build our club to be top 4 with regular CL and potential title challengers (which we are right now) - why would you chose somewhere else?

But that's a separate point - ultimately if a player is good enough to attract the attention of bigger clubs than ours, then all other things being equal he'll go there, right of first refusal or not

That we are trying to make ourselves one of those clubs is admirable and encouraging, but it doesn't change the fact that right of first refusal is essentially pointless

I think we need to understand that Brazilian football (and Brazil in general) is going through a bit of a boom at the moment, so the players are on pretty good wages, and Brazilian players are going back to Brazil rather than leaving the country, so the prestige/reputation of the league is higher than it has been.

Also, if he is thinking about getting into the Brazilian national team, he might be better off staying at Inter, where he will have supporters in the press helping his case, than come to Europe, go off the radar and have no back home championing his case.

With the world cup being in Brazil, I can see a lot of Brazilians waiting until after 2014 before moving so as not to harm their international chances.

All excellent points

I think mind-geames are being played by all interested parties in regard to young Leandro.

I actually think that the "including Spurs" part wasnt actually asked at all. I wouldnt be surprised if it was plain and simply "You've been linked with a move to Europe, what are your plans?" - The way he answered hints at nothing about Spurs being asked in the question.
