Not a player we need, but he's a very good player on his day, and it'll be interesting to see where he ends up given his contract standoff with Stuttgart.

My guess is Bayer, as I suspect they'll be anxious of losing Calhanoglu soon.

Yeah, I think CF will be the only position targeted this window, maybe an outside chance of a DM or CB depending on Fazio's future. I think AM/WF won't be an issue even if Townsend goes, we have more than enough.

If stuttgart sell they get relegated... they'd be nuts to sell him.

So odds-on they will. My second team really wind me up at times.

From a Tottenham perspective, we don't need him, this link is a pure moneyball play IMO

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be stepping up their interest in VfB Stuttgart attacker Daniel Didavi, and a move might happen in January.

Didavi is out of contract in the summer and it has been reported that Spurs were in the frame to bring him in on a Bosman deal at the end of the current campaign.

The talented 25-year-old has been in good form in the Bundesliga this season and is seen as a archetypal Mauricio Pochettino signing.

Welt Fussball is reporting that Spurs are indeed looking to bring in the player on a Bosman deal, but that Stuttgart want to sell him this month.

That could lead to Spurs negotiating a contract with the player first, before agreeing a fee with Stuttgart should the player decide to head to White Hart Lane.

He is an outstanding talent, can dribble, shoot, scores his fair share for a midfielder and has flair and an eye for a pass. But unfortunately has been injured so often just as he puts together a run of games. I think with his contract up in the summer it would be a good signing if we can work on his injuries. A very talented player. Would be playing for a big big team if he played 30 plus games a season. Would take a chance on him as he offers something a little different to our current batch of AM.

I disagree to an extent, i feel the 3 main areas for us to strengthen are, Striker clearly, DM for squad depth and a possibly new AM (with Townsend leaving and the jury still being out on Chadli and if he fits in with Poch work rate, plus N'jie being injured). I feel we need someone powerful, direct, pace, goal threat . If this guy is a free i think it's worth considering.

Jury still out on whether Chadli fits in with Poch ethos? Was he not one of our standout players last season, and one of the highest, if not highest scoring midfielder in the league?

I think the only area where we'd really need him would be on the right, as we have only one player who prefers playing there and only one left-footed attacker if Townsend leaves. Didavi does have experience in this role, and has contributed with both goals and assists from the position. He is indeed quick and very direct, and has a helluva ranged shot. Furthermore, he does press well and does work hard in matches.

The only question for me is would he be content with such a role. Personally, I think he should as I think RW is the only position where he has a genuine chance of ever cracking the German national team, as his favored position of No 10 is stacked. He would also have to agree to compete directly for two positions with well-solidified players, including Lamela at RW.

If he's willing to come in and fight for it, and Townsend goes, it might be a clever buy given his contract situation. My fear is making things tougher for Pritchard to make a claim at No 10, which is something I'd really like to see.

Hey coopsie, glad to see you back on cue ;)

Chadli did well last season, but the point is fair IMO as Chadli's defensive output isn't quite all that. When he plays on the left, as when Eriksen does, it creates openings that opposition sides can easily flaunt with pace.

Thank you (y)

I think the lack of pace & work ethic = why Pochettino played Rose behind him? Seemed a very good (productive) left side with those 2 on it?

Think this would signal us giving up on Pritchard.

Not necessarily. Pritch is right-footed and better suited to LW in Poch's system other than No 10, while Didavi is right-footed and better suited to RW, while we're looking very likely to move Townsend on.
