Dont want Alves at all....

For one hes a bit of a prick and its funny how everyone is quick to forget that he's a little cheat as soon as hes linked with us.

Chimbonda is a better defender than Alves, that side to his game isnt really up to par at all plus hes quite lightweight. As someone said before, hes a good wingback...if he was used in a 3-5-2 that would suit him more. Reminds me of Roberto Carlos, great going forward and poses an attacking threat but lacks in the defensive department.

As for Poulsen..he could be that tough bastard that our midfield is crying out for but his disclipine is so poor. Anyone remember stamping on Jenas's head? Or his little rift with Berba? Would rather have Renato as a defensive midfielder unless Poulsen sorted out his attitude.

Alves does cheat (dives) quite a lot, but he is one of the best RBs in the world right now.

Chimbonda is NOT a better defender than Alves. If he was then Chimbonda would be in the french team and Alves wouldn't be in the Brazil team.

Renato would be an awesome player for us to have in our team - he is exactly the type of player we need in DM right now.

from what people have said he picks on form not reputation. so maybe (and this is a long shot) routledge might get a chance if he puts a few more performances like he did in the ressies the other week (care of BOF).

could be the kind of player ramos likes to pick

Matter of opinion.

You cant really say that. France and Brazil are two different teams. There are better defenders ahead of Chimbonda in the French team plus their manager doesnt seem to like picking players who dont play for his idea of top sides. Alves maybe in the Brazil team but hes not a regular, and since Cafu is no longer around there isnt much competition for that RB spot is there?

Fair enough, but most peoples opinion is that he is, hence why he plays RB for the best national team in the world and why Chelsea were offering to pay £20m for him.

Not much competion for the Brazil RB spot???? How about:

1.) Maicon - Inter Milan
2.) Cicinho - Roma

As for there being better defenders ahead of Chimbonda in the french team - i'd like you to tell me who??? Only the 35 year old Thuram comes to my mind.

Chimbo will be fine if he regains his self respect and starts enjoying his football again .

If Ramos has only got £40m plus the proceeds of sales to spend then upgrading Chimbonda becomes a "nice to have" , not a priority .

Will be interested to find out whether he thinks the "ones for the future" we have been buying have the potential to ever become good enough .

A Goalkeeper (_Palop_)
An experienced central defender (_Lucio_)
A defensively minded central midfielder (_Appiah_)
A creative left footed left winger (Kerlon)

I believe Kaboul can shine in that role. We need a creative midfielder like a fabregas, elano, carrick, pirlo. Of course no one of there stature.

There must be another elano that we can get. If we get a defensive midfielder and partner him with jenas we still lack creativity in the final 3rd. I know we seem to be scoring goals for fun but we need a creative central midfielder

Thats exactly I was going to say, and from what I've seen, both have a better understanding of the defensive side of the RB position than Chimbonda.

In my opinion Maicon is the only credible candidate for that RB spot at the moment for Brazil...unless there's someone else I'm not aware of. Cicinho has already been exposed as a fraud playing at RB.

That comment about Chelsea offering 20m for Alves - they throw money around at anyone even if its way beyond their real value, theres nothing new there.

One thing I do agree with Brasilspur about is getting Renato in as a DM.

I get pissed off trying to watch Chimbonda defend, im sure Alves would be quite similar though im pretty certain he'd have a better final ball than Chimbo!

I recently went to the Brazil - Mexico friendly and I was really impressed with how good Alves was defensively. He completely closed down Mexico's new phenom Guardado and always had a foot in. I was in the same boat of thinking this guy was a liability in defense, but he isn't.

I have come to the conclusion that we cant have wingback's and wingers playing in the same team. This is a problem I believe with Chimbonda and Lennon, both getting in each others way and taking up the same positions in the attacking third. I thought I'd never say this but Stalteri would Ideally be better suited to have in the team if where going to play with wingers. Alves would basically be the same as Chimbonda with maybe better delivery.

Ramos first job is to sort out the central defensive unit and when he has a fully fit squad, King Rocha pairing should be tried IMO, both experienced defenders.
