Danny Murphy: If England aren't going to play to Harry Kane's strengths then he should be rested against Wales

With England all but qualified, Harry Kane should be given a rest against Wales on Tuesday because he didn’t look right against the USA. And when he returns fresher for the knockout stages, I’m hoping the England captain’s role is refined.

It's a shame we couldn't give Gareth Southgate a rest. Preferably a permanent one.

Danny Murphy is a twat.
He's not wrong though. (only read the headline as standard ;) )
England haven't played to Kane's strengths for years now, the fact he rarely if ever gets a pass from anyone playing alongside him in the front 3 aside, he's lucky if he gets the ball at all without coming deep or going wide.

He cuts a very frustrated figure with England as they just don't seem to know how to play with him.

Agree with everything you say.

I was just saying he's a twat in general.:)

Danny Murphy is a twat.
He is but he’s correct.. the biggest issue we have is Kane never gets the ball where he can score. If Sterling is in the team it’s pointless have Kane in cos he never creates anything for Kane. If foden starts Kane should start

Harry was not great but the drubbing he is getting in the media is totally unfair. Mount, Sterling and Saka were far worse and, apart from Maguire, the rest were no better.
The problem for Harry was Southgate’s tactics. He seemed to expect him to play like he does at Spurs. However at Spurs he has a willing runner to pass to in Son whereas none of the England team were making those runs for him. Of course he is tired but Southgate is as guilty as Conte in overplaying him and has far less excuse for doing so.

i thought Kane had a decent game, Saka, Trippier and sterling where the issues, maybe I'm spurs tinted but i thought Mcquire played well, our right side got dominated!

Kane did create some chance but saka didn't control it!

He should be rested Tuesday, Grealish and Fodden should also play!

Sterling/Saka cant play in the same team. I would replace Sterling and Mount as I can’t understand what they both do. Grealish is sub
standard too. The team needs a shake up because the 11 have become predictable. The team will only reach its level and then struggle. Last 8 at best once decent opposition appears
