Yeaaahhh, remembered when he signed after his performance in FA semis at Highbury - we were all well chuffed.
As has been commentated (and I'd agree with), he would have reached even greater heights if it wasn't for injuries. We had a shite medical staff at the Lane over those years...

Thanks for the memories Dazza! All the best with you arm-sleeve mobile phone battery charger thingy!!!

Some of the comments about Anderton in this thread are disgraceful. 12 years he spent at Spurs. That's pretty stout service to a club in this day and age plus he was a top quality player for the majority of his Spurs career.

Could have gone to Man Utd but he stayed. I think the club have done him a massive dis-service in not granting him a testimonial.

People seem to forget that loyalty is pretty much dead in football now and here we have a player who stayed at an under acheiving club for 12 years.

Top player and servant for our great club. If we had won a few trophies while he was playing for us the fickle naysayers would be queueing up to praise him to the heavens

Wanted to go to Man Utd but was forced to stay.

Fixed.

Thanks for the service. But a Spurs legend is not someone who nigh on had to be forced to stay at the club.

Anderton was one of my fav players when i was growing up, but like so many of our players he spent too much time in the treatment room...

good to see him scoring the winning goal in his last match.

At what point did i say he was a legend?

DFF never said that you did

He only commented on your point that he chose to stay and suggested that he felt he was more forced to stay then chose to.

The point DFF made about him being a legend was clearly a second point unreleated to your post, so he wasn't saying it in disagreement with you, he was making a point of his own.

For the record Anderton clearly expresses regret for staying with us and not joining Utd, so wheter he wanted to stay or not I think he surely felt he made the wrong decision and probably spent the final years of his career with his heart no longer at our club.

And in agreement with DFF, a legend he is not.

Come on guys, whether he is a legend or not is immaterial - he was a good player for Spurs who gave us some great moments to cheer. I will always remember two things about our Shaggy:

1. The old free kick routine with Vinny Sideways putting the ball down, raising his right hand and then Dazza almost telepathically finding Teddy's head - how many times did we score from that routine?

2. A dire away game at Coventry, when he came over to take a corner an TBBM shouted "come on sicknote!" Anderton gave him a priceless pissed off look from beneath his fringe.

Thanks for the memories!
