Defensive Midfielder- Who should we look to?

This a more general thread- similar to the one about a second striker, and it's regarding the first XI Defensive Midfielder most would agree we need.

It seems that for this position we want someone with experience, preferably PL experience, to help the younger players in the squad and to be a 'big-game player'. Not only that, but I personally feel that it is necessary that we buy this player within 2 weeks, so they can play in pre-season and therefore, against United.

Obviously, our first choice was Schneiderlin, who's gone to United. We seem to also like Kramer, but he plays for a CL club and JJ has basically ruled it out. McCarthy seems to be our new Plan A, but he may be too expensive, while someone else, like Camacho, is injured.

Mario Suarez has been linked with the media and in ITK, but I'm not sure we're that interested.

So, what players would you suggest we look to for this vital position, assuming we could not get McCarthy/Kramer?

If all the above mentioned in your post weren't possible then I would consider Cambiasso for a season or if City are conscious FFP try for Fernandinho or Fernando, I would even consider Ramirez from Chelsea if it was at all possible

Well, you kind of limit the possible answers in your OP. Must be this, must be that, PL experience etc etc.
Given the names that are tossed around for CM already, I do find it strange that Ki Sung-yueng has not been mentioned at all. I'm not saying he is my preferred choice, but surely he should be a option given all the other "candidates". Surely ahead of for instance Suarez? Sung-yueng might be a little but light weight in terms of muscles though.

how do we know pochettino actually wants one? to me everything seems to suggest that he prefers centre mids who are comfortable going both ways, rather than having a clearly defined holder alongside a more forward thinking player. i don't know what's going on with stambouli as i haven't really been following but is there no chance rabiot ends up being part of the deal?

Wait a sec, I said 'it seems', not 'must', and that's based on ITK. I like Ki a lot but I'm not sure how good he is defensively.

I wouldn't mind Cambiasso at all, and it's by no means certain that he'll sign a new contract at Leicester. The problem with Fernandinho/Fernando is that they haven't really impressed in the PL. Chelsea won't sell to us.

He signed Wanyama, who's definitely a DM. It seems PSG are refusing to let Rabiot go.

I think it is exceedingly optimistic, but not entirely impossible. IMO.
Would love Rabiot. We should do what ever it takes, short of... short of... well, murder and theft.

Just wondering, with Stambouli seemingly being offloaded, and a like for like seemingly being sought, what is needed to improve on Stambouli, or else a change of mind, and the answer is in our ranks.

PSG want Stambouli so he's got something that worth something to the French Chelsea.

There's one thing playing DM as a position, and another being good defensively.
I was implying that his defensive skills are surely acceptable, at the same time he is adaptable. My main point is regardless that I find it strange that he is the one we are not linked with.

Good enough for PSG it seems
Really? Most seem to think he's only being signed to fill their homegrown quota. David Luiz is also good enough for PSG apparently. I have nothing against Stambouli, and I'm mildly confused about the sale, but if Poch wants him gone, then so be it.

Hadn't thought I'd that homegrown thing. Yeah. But still a difficult sale to understand
