No doubt about it. Especially when you consider the misses Rooney did tonight. It shows how important it is to have another striker who scores goals. Heskey just isn't good enough. Defoe is our best goalscorer. Start him against Croatia!

The main thing that Defoe has added to his game since he didn't make the squad for 2006 is the ability to come off the bench and score.

I'd probably start with Cant Control up front with Rooney to rough them up a bit and if we need goals then we know we have a man that can come on and score them.

Unless he plays at right back, in which case he couldn't do much worse than Johnson. Upson and Green worry me as well.

The problem is its arguably easier to come off the bench at half time and score than it is to start, as the opposition would physically and mentally sharper at minute 1 than minute 46.

However, JD has done it so often now that its not a coinicidence, and he should get starts. They say you shouldnt change a winning team but thats nonsense if you can make the team better. We look so much more dangerous when he is on the pitch, the wide men come into the game a lot more and we seem to create a lot more chances with him on the pitch (and not thumping it up to Heskey to fall over)

But by God we were uncreative in Centre Midfield. Is there any reason why Huddlestone is not in the squad? I'm not saying he would start, but just to be on the bench to offer something different to the Barry Lampard Carrick backwards and sideways slowly slowly for god sake don't break into a sprint or your hair might get ruffled approach.

totaly agree, would love to see a midfeild along the lines of

Milner Gerrard/Lampard Carrick Lennon

Start the next match. Thought Barry and Varrick keeped getting in each others way, and we had a much better shape when we played 2 players who can play down the wings on the wings.

And Keano scored the winner for Ireland.

Now we need Kranks to score the winner on Wednesday to give them a better chance of going through.

Its pretty obvious that Huddlestone isn't as good as Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick, Hargreaves... what can Huddlestonr add that the others aforementioned can't? A nice fancy long ball? I'm sure Gerrard and Beckham can already do that.
