He was poor long before porch went, probably 12-18months before porch left he was poor.
Sure, but players go through dips and as I remember he was getting 'distracted' with esports and all that stuff, so you can't help but wonder at the difference the father figure being there to help him find his way out of all of that and not being there made. Maybe it's my memory adding details, but I've always kinda associated the name change on the shirt with the decline...

Agreed. That seemed the turning point to me. With all the context that came to light since then, it makes sense.

To be fair to Dele, his deterioration in form pretty much mirrored the team’s deterioration in form. All around the pitch we were becoming worse: Demebele was reaching the end, Wanyama was pretty much finished, Alderweireld and Vertonghen had both passed their peak, Walker was gone, Eriksen would be gone soon. The team was spent with only really Kane and son going on to show the kind of form for us that the team showed in the early Poch seasons.

Ultimately, Dele was prospering whilst we were a really young, energetic, well oiled machine, and his form suffered when the team started floundering. It seems like he struggled to pick himself up from that, and clearly there were personal factors involved too which would make coming back even more difficult.

Cannot see him playing this season. Firstly because Everton will have to pay us money after 3 more appearances. Secondly, I don’t think he will be fit enough to play for a team who need every point.

Skipp, PEH, Lo Celso, Sess, and he’s always been good mates with Maddison.

He clearly still has a strong tie with the club. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him training with us in the summer whilst he looks for his next opportunity.

Wonder why he was at a spurs game when Everton were playing in the earlier kick off. Not knocking the bloke, but do find it strange

I think Everton are just allowing him to recover his mental health in the way that suits Dele best, and if he's been invited down or just wanted to come and watch the game I'm sure Everton have said that's fine. I'm not saying Everton have written him off but it looks more like they've given him space away from 'playing for Everton' when he needs it.

If, and it’s a big if, he got to a place physically and mentally where he could perform at a high level again I’d have him in the squad again. A very different skill set to Madison but he’d be an option in that most advanced of the three in midfield. A unique talent and one we should all keep a place in our hearts for. If I’m Ange though I’m looking at Gibbs-White to finish out the midfield options if he was gettable.

as much as a nice take that is, it’s clear Everton have written him off as if he plays another 3 games for them they have to pay us a reported £10m when at the moment they haven’t got £10 to their name. They are still paying him a reported £100k a week though.

To be clear, I don't mean they are still actively considering him for selection - they're obviously not, and that's probably a mutually agreeable position between Dele and Everton. I meant that Everton haven't simply told Dele that he can just crack on and do what he wants, when he wants. He's still a contracted employee there and as you say picking up ~£100K a week.

I was suggesting that they are cogniscent of what Dele needs to get himself back on track as a person, rather than primarily a footballer and sometimes that might mean coming to watch a Spurs match and connecting with some old mates and friendly faces.

Something has always puzzled me about the Dele to Everton deal - we all know Levy is no mug when it comes to transfer finances - so it just doesn't add up that he would have let him go on a deal that guarantees us nothing in return - apart from saving on wages, which I accept were high. I am sure we would have heard by now, but wonder if there is some kind of agreement where he returns to us if the number of games is not met?

Why would he return to us if not met? We technically sold him even if it was for 0 plus add one (or small fee plus add ons). If they don't play him or when his contract expires with them he will be free to go to where ever he wants.

I think the motivation to get his wages off the books trumped everything else in that deal from Levy's point of view. And in hindsight given how little he's been available I would say it was a move that has been proved to be justifiable.

Yes missing out on any sort of fee stings, but having his wages eating out of the coffers while he wasn't playing at all would've cost more in the long run.

And before anyone misconstrues, this is absolutely no criticism of Dele. He deserves nothing but support and love from us.
