in a nutshell, his career went downhill the moment he became Dele from Alli.............

More interested in off-pitch stuff then on-pitch

Yes, because any other profesionals are spending 24 hours a day in training or gym.

He can be shit as a player, but it's not because he's using social media. I'm pretty sure he was also building his social media presence in 2016 for example.

Its fine if he wants to build his social media following, but surely you can agree, not during a game as intense in rivalry as chelsea where hes been left out>? people are already questioning his attitude towards football etc, he has previous for doing this when being left out too i think? sure there was another incident? i could be wrong, IMO he knew exactly what he was doing, and that was being petulant, its just nuts & sad to see. this kid had the world at his feet 3 years ago, and now he looks like he will be another one lost in obscurity.

Mount and Rice are even more active on social media than Dele... Rice singing on Twitter didn't stop him playing good against City few days later, Diogo Jota was playing FIFA Tournament few hours before scoring 2 goals against Soton etc

They were not dropped by their teams for playing poorly, nor did they post on social media while the team they've been dropped from was playing. Pretty obvious why he's getting stick, is it not?

I'll be very sad to see him go, but now is the time. I've always held out hope he could turn it around because he's made us some great memories. When he came in on that debut season he was so hungry and full of contempt for seasoned Premier league pros. Totally fearless.

His two headers at Chelsea, that goal against Palace, and probably my favourite moment; that ridiculously nonchalant dink vs Arsenal when Kane played him through. Magic.

He doesn't have that fire he used to have. He signed a big contract, become a social media influencer, and that's all she wrote. Gutted. Easly one of my favourite players in recent times in his pomp.

Agree with all this, would also add the goal in our 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge where he took the ball out of the air and dinked it over their keeper, sublime, what a player he was such a shame his game has gone to pot.

Will be sad to see him go, but it’s probably long overdue. I think Dele’s decline isn’t just down to him, I think a large part of it is down to our own decline as a functioning team. Over the last two or three years our midfield has gone from one of the best in the league (Wanyama, Dembele, Eriksen) to one that feels cobbled together. We don’t control games like we used to, and as a result Dele doesn’t quite fit up front. He can’t carve out his own chances like Kane, Son or Moura, he’s not that type of player.

I also don’t think there’s a role for him in Conte’s system. Hope he does well wherever he goes next.

those hamstring injuries robbed him of any pace he had to make runs into the box, which was always his biggest strength, losing eriksen meant we no longer had anyone in the squad capable of picking him out anyway. a move to newcastle where he can play off of chris wood could be great for him.

When teams lack creativity everyone starts to hate on midfielders that aren't creative, even Dembele was annoying fans at times. Think he could be good if we had more guys like Eriksen and if we had 60%+ possession like we used to. Even then he can be bit of a problem trying to fit him in any formation, probably works best as shadow striker or on left wing but he isn't a winger or wing forward like Son. He doesn't have passing ability of Thomas Muller either and he lost some pace so his runs into the box aren't as good. He lost some hunger too, just lacks motivation it seems. If he ever sorts his head he can be ok in any system and very good in the right system but I wouldn't bet on it.

I don't really buy all the stuff about his attitude being the root of his downfall. I think it's clear that he's worked really hard recently to try turn it around but it's just not happened for him. My conclusions are that he's a really unique/limited tactical profile that just didn't fit as the team evolved/deteriorated from peak Poch. It's a massive shame and it will hurt if he starts banging in the goals somewhere else. I appreciate its time for him to go though.

I don't buy that. He just did that against Liverpool and had a great save against him. He did that against Mura but wasn't found.

The problem is he does absolutely fuck all outside of that.

Yeah I don't feel like pace has ever been a thing for Dele. He wasn't quick to begin with and has never been able to beat a man without doing a nutmeg or a trick. I feel like his decline is down to a combination of mental drop off, a loss of creativity in the team and a change of system meaning we weren't playing him high up with Kane anymore. It got even worse when Poch left as once we stopped playing possession football that allowed him to float into the box, his weaknesses were exposed even further.

Even at his peak he was an awkward player that was subject to criticism from fans (*cough* Bus Conductor *cough*) and his game has always had glaring weaknesses. You take away his goals/edge and there's very little left. I have a feeling that he's never going to find that perfect combination of factors that made him so good ever again.

Newcastle United have launched a manic Monday of transfer business as they push for a positive end to their pursuit of Jesse Lingard while also opening talks over the loan signing of Dele Alli.

Newcastle have stepped up their efforts to land a clutch of new signings following their arrival in Saudi Arabia for a training camp and are pushing to bring in as many five players this week, on a mixture of permanent and loan deals.

Whether Newcastle sign both Alli and Lingard remains to be seen but there is growing confidence Lingard will arrive this week even though Manchester United are yet to formally accept their bid.

Should have sold him 2 years ago when it became apparent that Jose wouldn't get the best of him. When he stopped performing under Poch you could at least point to a new manager possibly helping. After an initial response under Jose he went back to his old ways and should have been sold in summer 2020. It just seems to be Levy who wants to keep him and why we didn't sell him last summer either. I can't imagine Paratici is reluctant to sell.

Dare I say two of our best performances this season, City and Liverpool at home - have both come with Dele playing in midfield.

The last 3 managers have completely disrergarded him and there is clearly a reason for that. However i still can't help but think with a run in the team and an arm round his shoulder he has a lot to offer.

However if Conte has no interest in having him in the squad then i am behind whatever decision he comes to.

I suspect he will shine wherever he goes

If we'd sold every player that Mourinho wouldn't get the best out of we'd be left with Kane, Son and PEH ?

In all seriousness, he needs to play for someone whose style suits his ability to arrive in the box. He is essentially a second striker that doesn't offer much in build-up play. And there aren't many (any?) top sides that play that way. His ego might not like it but his list of suitors are more likely to be bottom half clubs.
