I like this post. I think that's the thing with Dele Alli-he's a much stronger character than most other players at our club. Nothing fazes him. He makes loads of mistakes, but his head never drops.
That's a fair point. Very strong-minded and mentally resilient for his age.

Wasn't referring to you when talking about scapegoating. Even last season when he was brilliant there were sections of posters who just focussed on what he couldn't do rather than what he could and still unbelievably called for him to be left out the team. So I believe his relatively slow start to this season (which could actually be said about most of the team) and a lot of what I read on here seems to be pointing towards him becoming a scapegoat imo.
Fair enough. I tend not to read too many of these threads. Many due to people losing perspective on a player because they've been carried away with their own ideas and perceptions meaning that every disagreement needs to be black and white. Alli has had a bit of a grey start, but most of the players haven't hit the ground running as yet.

Go through pretty much every match thread. 'Alli must be dropped' is a common theme, mostly moments before a world class finish or assist.

I know these guys are on stupid money when compared to most people, but sometimes I do think we forget just how young being 19 or 20 really is. I have a bunch of 21-25 year olds working at our company, and keeping them focused and on task is often a challenge. I was the same at that age, and I think because they are on crazy wages and we just see them as professional footballers, that maybe we forget that 20 is still quite young. Wasn't Bale in some ways the same? I do remember a bunch of people absolutely slating him and wanting Spurs to move him on when he was first with us. With that raw ability, drive, plus some coaching, he turned into one of the worlds best. Not saying that Dele will get to that level, but the point is maybe football fans are sometimes too quick to get on young players backs.

I wouldn't make excuses and would never be opposed to dropping a player or substituting them if they are not playing well, but one of the things that a decent coaching team is meant to do is continue to work with them and over time, iron out the flaws.
He's got a ton of raw talent, and as long as his ego doesn't get ahead of him, and he can keep pushing himself, with the help of the Spurs coaches he should continue to improve. Let's see where he's at in another couple of years.

**EDIT** FYI, I'm not saying people on this thread are saying he's crap, and I don't have a problem with saying a player was playing badly or was not performing in a match, but the point stands that maybe being this young means that they are not going to be as consistent as we'd like them to be.

Anyone expecting them to be extremely consistent is insane. Dele clearly is a quality player with extremely high potential. I think people here are rightly saying that he hasnt been too good so far this season, which is a fair point. He's very much out of form. It still doesnt take away from how good he is.

To those moaning about Dele:

Do you have 90 Potential on FIFA 17?

Exactly.

Agree with @thinktank. We definitely haven't seen his 'spark' yet this season. To lose it completely would be the wrong thing to do, to harness it would bring him to another level. It's a fine line though.
Thought Dele showed some of his 'spark' for the first time this season yesterday.

I think he's been showing that spark all season. If he'd scored a couple of his previous sitters we'd all be saying he picked up straight where he left off.

Nothing to do with his goalscoring or general play. More his mischief I'm talking about.
