Just about to post this, guess I'm too slow. On topic though, I'd love Demba Ba. He can finish and is clinical and he holds up the ball very well. I think he's a better all round player than Papiss Cissé, although his injury problems could be an issue.

I could never see Levy spending 7m on a striker who's career has a high chance of ending at any moment. And to be honest I can't blame him.

do we really need another injury prone striker who is just one challenge away from ledley king condition?

i rate him as a player and if the release clause is true he'd come cheap, but dont think he's what we need right now.

on a sidenote, would he even come? he loves newcastle and has one of his best mates as his strike partner. Id bet on them paying higher than us aswell...

Yes, Newcastle took the gamble and got rewarded - I'm just not sure Levy would even entertain it.

it wasnt as much of a gamble for the geordies though as they got him on a free, whereas we could end up playing £7m+ only for him to get clattered in training and never play a minute of football.
good player, but not worth the risk with our limited funds

Agreed, I was shocked we didn't take a punt on him when he was free after him successful time at West Ham

I think we should have started last season with a strike force of Adebayor, Ba, VDV and defoe......but its just one of many what if's and we shouldda wouldda couldda comments and there's no point being a captain hindsight

Good player but much like Bent and Defoe needs to play in a 4-4-2. Just look at his stats in the first part of the season when he played with Best compared to his stats in the second half where he played in a 4-3-3 with Cisse and Ben Arfa.

Funnily enough I'm not sure that Cisse would fit in our system with VdV either. Great finisher but doesn't have Ade's ability to hold the ball up or bring others into play.

A little harsh. He played wide in the 4-3-3 and Cisse was the main focal point, but Ba can definitely old the ball up, has strength to hold players off and can finish so I see no reason why he can't play up top by himself. He wouldn't be a first choice for sure but he'd do that job much better than Defoe.

I didn't say he wasn't better at the lone front man than either Defoe or Bent but that it didn't play to his strengths. In fact it isn't just about whether you can play the lone role but how the team plays, possession or on the break. Bent is a perfect example doing well in teams set up to play on the break and poorly in teams with lots of possession.

If there is any others within our reach and even a little more expensive we should be looking there. I think Ba is quality but this injury issue is exactly what we want to avoid, we are probe to this sort of thing as a club and can't risk it.

I recall reading some article by a knee specialist claiming his injury should be pretty much sorted now. I don't know where the article was though, it was a year ago or so. I think there was a problem with his previous surgery being done badly.

Think Ba wrote that himself

He has played a fair few games since arriving in England, especially for a player apparently plagued by injury.

Every player is one challenge away from never playing again aren't they?

Shame we didn't pick him up on a free when he left the mongrels.

Could Demba Ba be our smokescreen for the early part of this window ? I don't remember him being mentioned in posts from ITKs but if you look at the Tottenham feed on Newsnow you would think that Ba to us is way up there

His injury problems are overrated, he hasn't missed a game injured in a couple of seasons, yes he had a bad injury in Germany but Van Niselrooy had a bad one pre Utd, ba is worth the risk
