What strikes me the most about that is the ref just standing back and watching for what seems like eternity. Why didn't he get straight in there and calm the situation down with authority.

Wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit going on before that incident. Looked to me like Alfie was a bit riled up.

Naughty tackle by Alfie but what the fuck is a seasoned pro like Drinkwater doing kicking out like that? Also wtf is the ref doing?

Exactly, Alfie is 16 years old what's Drinkwater's excuse?

What amazes me the most is that apparently Danny Drinkwater is still earning millions there.

That's a proper tackle. Drinkwater kicks out in frustration. No need for these situations in the u23. Both players correctly sent off.

He'd just been two-footed in a low-level game?

Completely baffled by the emphasis on Drinkwater's reaction in this incident. A split-second after being hit by a potentially career-ending tackle, he lashes out. Devine is just a kid and I'm sure he'll learn, but it was a horrible and unnecessary tackle.

In the time between the tackle and Drinkwater kicking out, the fact that Devine is 16 wouldn't have entered his head. It was an instinctive reaction, all that will have gone through his head is that he could have been badly injured. It doesn't justify what Drinkwater did, but it does explain it. Both were rightly sent off, but what Devine did was much worse.
