Sort of picked, I said to myself as a 7 year old boy, the first page I complete in my first panini sticker album is the team I will support. My brother did the same and ended up as an Evertonian.

My Son is now 6 and is just getting into football, he has no choice, I am forcing Spurs on to him!

Grew up in tottenham but my old man is actually an arsenal fan.

My cousins are proper spurs though, one was 4 years older than me and they made it clear I was spurs before I really understood what football was.

Family although they never really pushed me. I had a '81 Panini album and Spurs were my team from then on. I vaguely remember the cup finals. We moved to Suffolk when I was 11 and it was only when I started going to games as an adult, around when Keane signed, I found out my mum and dad used to go to whl as did other family members.
Its hard but it is all the sweeter when we win against the big boys as we are the underdog. I hate the way football has gone. Even when we we shite we still gave everything and tried and thats all I ask. Going of tangent here but the modern footballer who takes no responsibility, will jump at the smallest excuse not to perform and cant possibly think for himself during a match but still gets paid hundreds of thousads a week at the same time really fucks me off.
Apologies for rant.

My family are half Manchester United, half Glasgow Rangers.

Dad is a season ticket holder at Ibrox, my mum at Old Trafford.

I’m the only one who supports Spurs.

Why spurs then?

Why spurs then?

I was born in London so I chose a London club when I was about 6 or 7.

My first real Spurs supporting memory was beating Wimbledon 6-2.

My mum started taking me to Spurs games later that year, our first was Leicester away at Filbert Street, where I remember we sat next to Ian Walker’s dad.

Oh right fair enough. Not choosing United shows a fair bit of willpower!

most of my family are QPR and when we played QPR in the 82 cup final my dad was annoyed at my grandad so decided to support spurs in the game to annoy him, he fell in love and here I am 39 years later..

That's probably one of the most bizarre confessions I've seen on this site - I was in to Thunderbirds when I was six but, hey, each to their own!

Child support services be knocking on your door soon mate.

I remember vividly liking Newcastle and Spurs, and kind of Everton at the time. 3 pretty big clubs with great support that weren't in the big boys club.

Newcastle had Viduka around then, and Everton had Cahill. Being an Aussie would have made more sense to follow them. But spurs have been more "successful" since then... So not a bad choice really.

I grew up by Loftus Road and used to go to so many games with my dad... days of Ray Wilkins, Ferdy, Impey, Sinton - they were a fun team to watch. Still my second team.

Yeah I don't mind them, keep an eye out for their results and loftus road is a funny little ground but I like it

Always had a soft spot for QPR, when I was very young it was the kit that attracted me, growing up they had a great side in the early to mid 70's (Stan Bowles. Gerry Francis, Don Given, Dave Thomas et al) and the legend that is Mick Jones supports them; I believe they still play 'London Calling' before each game?

Via Uncle, cousin and Dad … but he died when I was really young, probably because Spurs gave him a brain aneurism

I had a liverscum candy silver away kit then i saw the 1991 FA Cup final and fell in love with Spurs... so I ditched Liverscum and turned to glory hunting... erm... didnt realise that would be a real bad choice...
Pretty much the same - mum's side of the family are all reds and dad's a ram (he didn't want to put his kids through the torture of being Derby fans. Lol). Was Liverpool until 1993 and then chose Spurs because of Sheringham. An awful choice on my part but I wouldn't change it for the world

Is it culturally unacceptable to support a club outside of London if you're a Londoner?

Nah, not really. I've known plenty of people down south that support northern teams, for one reason or another. Often it's because the likes of Liverpool or United were successful when they were at school and peer pressure tends to drag you in that direction.
For me, growing up in South London, I was always going to pick a local-ish team and my uncle was a massive Spurs fan, so I was swayed because of him (even though my mum wouldn't let him take me to any games because hooliganism was rife at the time and she was under the impression that football was dangerous).

Used to get to the Lane at least once a month but then came marriage, a mortgage and kids and I haven't been for over a decade now. That really pisses me off because I'd love to be there again but sadly, current circumstances mean that I can't afford it.

5 or 6 years old, thought that Jimmy Greaves just played for England... He went to Milan... Confused me a bit, but he came back and in December 61, I became a Spurs fan... I ain't seen anything like this situation at the moment but I regret nothing... Thanks Jimmy.

The story is, my dads uncles and grandad (all living in Newington, Kent, near Sittingbourne) were all frequent visitors to the Sittingbourne stands to watch them play. Then the summer after the double, 60-61, Spurs came down here and played Sittingbourne in a friendly, to which nearly everyone local went to. And apparently Sittingbourne never touched the ball, apart from kick offs and getting it out the net. So my family chose Spurs as their ‘big’ team.

This may have been glorified, it may not even be true, I don’t even wanna know if it really happened cos that would make it worse, but it’s what I was told, and it’s why I support Tottenham Hotspur.

The fuckers. ??‍♂️
