Do the players really get it?

Today wasn't nowhere near good enough. It shows we are still learning and still have a lot to improve on. But overall with have to see the bigger picture. We are in the Champions League. We have to stay positive and be proud! We have to come next season with ambition! #COYS

On the one hand I respect his desire to put the negatives behind us and focus on the good reasons we have to be optimistic for the future...

On the other it feels like trivialisation of fans feelings, and justification for one of the most abject capitulations in (my) living memory.

Personally I think an unreserved apology with a firm commitment to never let it happen again today, followed by comments like those above once the dust has settled would've been more appropriate.

Thoughts?

After having the night to calm down and really think about the performance - I'm still furious with that shower of shit.

My thoughts exactly. Just highlighted the small club mentality in some of the players too. Just happy with the champions league, downed tools once they'd choked the title.

I have no doubt whatsoever that the players are devastated, anyone who thinks this hasn't hurt them is mistaken.

If that was really the case there is no way I'd have just watched them stroll around putting no effort in whatsoever while Sissoko chose his moment to walk casually through our midfield and defence whenever he felt like it. With no tackles coming in st all. They don't give a toss mate, they were all focused on the euros and avoiding injury

Pretty telling that after every game this season weve been bombarded with tweets from the players - today, unless I have missed it, only Kane has said anything?

I'll leave the judging of mentality to Poch.

The squad have shown strong mentality in larger parts of the season than in the parts where we've seemed to freeze. I think people need to calm the fuck down. Even if this did hurt.

I question whether Walker, Vertonghen, Rose or Eriksen have the right mentality. N'Jie just to see what he can do. A lot of work to be done.

Rose? He's been one of our best players the last couple of seasons. Very consistent and fights like a motherfucker. Best LB in the league right now.

Eriksen's our highest assister (is that a word). He switches off but he has great vision and has contributed enough.

Verts is a strange one. We didn't miss him at all when he was out, but I still think he's as good as we'll get as a partner for Toby. The 2 enjoy each other's company.

Walker is very limited and I'd have no problems selling him. Son I'd keep too just to see if he settles in his 2nd season. Our foreign signings tend to have a shit 1st year.

Totally agree.

Just so disappointed right now, Jesus wept, even my Mum said it yesyersay "they don't need you and don"t think they care. Every year they let you down"

Just so typical, also the fans that kept saying 'wow we've finished 2nd'...will we ever learn?!?!?!?

NOOOOOO

I am sure the players do care but some of them are not mentally strong enough. These are two different things. Poch needs to address this by getting in more players with this mental strength. Arsenal were far worse than us this season but always seem to be able to finish the season strongly. Giroud stood up yesterday despite his limited ability. I think our inexperience has been crucial and hopefully as the team gain experience they will also gain mental strength. We need to channel our energy and anger in the right way. The decline can be traced right back to Alli's punch.

Some small part of me longs for the days of midtable 90's dross. At least I knew what I was getting. Yesterday was shocking

Some of those mid table dross teams wouldn't of gone out like we did yesterday either.

People talk about wanting the players to have a stronger mentality, the only way to achieve this is winning trophies on a regular basis and sadly at the going 'spurs will always let you down' rate I can't see that.

Yeah, it was woeful yesterday and there aren't really any excuses to be had; just plain old poor mentality.

You'd have thought that the lads would have a little pride - you know, even if they didn't care about the fans, you'd have thought they'd care about themselves.

That said, if anyone wants to put their mentality in context, you'll find that every team in the league (except Leicester this season) has flaky players.

I'm being to wonder if 'talent/skill' is secondary in a player compared to mental strength. Certianly the great players have both.
