Does anyone still rate Walker?

Again, all of which is exaggerated prejudice, I know the signs because I'm as guilty as anyone.

Walker at Villa on loan, and Walker at Spurs pre-VB were very different entities than what they are now. IQ aside, at least he attempted the maverick shit in the opposition half.

He was probably more direct and ran at the opposition more, but I don't think that is any different to what I originally said - that he has been indecisive for at least a couple of years now. I didn't mention who was at fault for this, I was commenting more about it being suggested it was due to his injury, when he was doing this way before his lay off. I don't think its a case of him merely getting more matches under his belt from a fitness point of view, he needs to seriously work on his game and Poch needs to work with him.

Yeah I agree, I'm not on the side of the injury thing either, I was putting it more down to instructions received/him trying to change his game either as a result of the previous or because he thinks he needs to. I think he is a better defender than people give him credit for though.

Don't understand this thread at all.

We've plenty of players in the squad we need to lose before we get to Walker - think of 6 other players like Kaboul, Chirches, Capoue, Paulhino, Sokdado, Adebayor.

If we can replace all those players in the summer TW and have time to look at other less strong spots I'll be very surprised (and delighted)

I think the point is, those others aren't really part of the first team now, Walker is, and therefore, if you deem him, as some do, a liability or just not good enough, then his replacement can be deemed more urgent than those others.

I don't have too many issues with his defending either, I think he plays far too close to the centre back at times and its a bad position leaving the wide man with so much space, but all off our fullbacks do this so I think its a tactical instruction. Apart from that its solid enough, he just needs to sort out his game when the ball's at his feet.

Why do you think that ? Do you think he reads the game better than the average EPL defender ? Do you think his positional sense is better than average ? Do you think his defensive decision making is better than average ?

Is there any better evidence of this than the idea that AVB somehow made any of our players stupider or technically less proficient than they already were.

Walker at Villa, QPR and pre AVB was exactly the same player. A quick legged dimwit with a great attitude and engine but poor technique under pressure.

And even Warnock publicly accused him of being unpredictable and causing him to "tear his hair out" whilst on loan at QPR.

I have no interest in discussing a thoroughly reasonable subject with you, on which your head is so far up your own arse you can floss with your shoelaces.

Please leave the discussion to the sensible ones.

Yes I agree, I think he suffers from the portrayal of players like Ivanovic who to me isn't a great full back per se, but is a good defender and is worth his weight in goals from headers alone. He's better than Glen Johnson who has always been dogshit, even Liverpool fans hate him, he has shit feet and isn't as quick or athletic as Walker either, and is a terrible defender.

Clyne is promising, but not 100% sold on him yet.

Yeah it does, a bit of discussion. If not maybe go in Walker thread. however the fact that it's on 8 pages already it means that its a pretty good debate/discussion.
It's a jimbo thread. His threads always get alot of posts. Mostly consists of people berating him.

its funny that so far I have 29 Disagrees yet by the looks of it most people agree that he isn't very good. His positioning and decision making is poor, and everyone agrees that his end product is pathetic.

As for who can we replace him with? Isnt that the scouts job? I don't think it would be particularly difficult to upgrade on him. Don't watch much championship football anymore but there must be loads of better right full backs playing in the division.

I'm still laughing at the fact you said the only reason you didn't make it and Walker did was because of 'beer and women'.

Yeah, I bet Walker has never had a bird offer him a nosh in the toilets, if he has he was probably sensible and declined, "nah thanks, don't want to end up like that Jimbo character..."

Corluka was a miles better full back than Walker, I miss him. Good player and linked up well with Lennon. maybe slow but had a much quicker brain the poor old dumbo.

Walker talks a very good game and says he's been working on his game, but the one thing he still can't do is cross the ball. In fact, both our full backs are the same in this regard.

With Walker and Townsend/Lamela on the right it's like the "cut-back" twins. Is it really that hard to make an overlap and put in a decent cross between the opposition's defence and keeper? Or am I asking too much?

That said, I think he has improved his defending and we do miss him when he's not playing.

Not really, the fact he came in to replace Corluka is a fact. Benitez style.

Corluka wasn't even a fullback by his own admission.

So you agree with every managers decisions? Its fact he came in to replace Corluka, Doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. Managers (particliuary Spurs managers) make mistakes.

Would also throw a fully fit Kaboul in there as a better option than Walker. Not now maybe as sadly it seems his confidence and fitness has gone to bits.
