I've always thought Roberts was making a stand against racism in the game as a whole, as he always seemed to comment after international events, as well as domestic events.

The interview above however leads me to believe that he thinks there is racism within our country, which I myself have never thought. This concerns me and I think it is a bit unfair to attack our governing bodies on the subject of racism rather than UEFA or FIFA who seem far bigger perpetrators. He talks about "inequality" and I think that is an unrealistic objective, women and homosexuals for example are much worse off than black people in terms of coaching managing and playing.

Have I just mis-read what he is trying to say? He seems extremely vague in that interview. I think the fight against racism should be aimed at UEFA and FIFA not the FA, as it weakens our case. They will see it as just as bad and respond to our criticism with Roberts' criticism of the FA.

there is racism in the UK. And in sport and in thought. But mostly its hidden, until a good white lad, who's deemed important at the time gets caught; then it's covered up and glossed over. But boy when that white boy is no longer necessary and they need someone to lynch so the status quo can be maintained, expect that white boy to hang

well that's how it appears to me, a foreigner living in the UK for 15 years.

I think the terry ban was a joke and the fact charges against Chelsea and Cole dont seem to be going further despite the FA claiming that the chairman(or someone like him) told Cole to lie to discredit Anton and change his initial statement

There have been many cases of racism before like this in football but none of those players were a England Captain and in one case a league 1 player had his contract terminated and then no club felt comfortable hiring despite like terry only saying it once, there doesn't seem to be consistency, we cant cry foul at Serbia when we have hardly punished our own captain and actually they have punished their players and coaches more though they did get violent

It's like they said on the Guardian Podcast if Joey Barton said the racist term he would have had a larger ban than the one he is serving for atm

Also Roberts has MBE for his charity work so this isnt a footballer who just sits on his arse complaining about societies problems or why no one helped

Also whilst I was playing football in one of the most extreme cases, one of the players on the opposite team's were told to break my legs and racism is very much alive but people think its just similar to a insult, racism is not a insult racism is the feeling you get from certain racist terms

On the point above, didnt Rio years ago say that there was a racist in the england dressing room and did we hear any uproar or disgust?

I think saying other bodies don't deal with racism as well is a really weak defence.

There are many issues in society and we should continue to strive to improve in all areas. Saying there is homophobia, sexism etc is just blurring the issue and not dealing with what is happening regarding racism.

John Terry's defenders keep on saying that what Suarez did was worse. Why does this matter? The fact that they can't defend what he did should tell them all they need to know.

A player gets sent off and gets a 3 game ban. Racial abuse on the football pitch and Terry got 4.

I can understand black players being upset and thinking the authorities aren't taking racism seriously.

We can argue that things have improved or some other countries are worse but in football we are far from being in a place where we can pat ourselves on the back regarding how we deal with racism.
