Today was our best performance of the season. Take away the circumstances surrounding the game and we were rather unlucky.

In fairness, we didn't create a great deal of clear-cut opportunities but that shouldn't take anything away from Hull. They came here with a game plan and it paid off.

Two seasons ago (I think), we narrowly lost 1-nil, at home, to Liverpool. Today was very similar, with Hull playing a narrow game, putting 10 men behind the ball. If not for a prolific, confident finisher, we would have won comfortably, today.

Campbell had a 'mare and Bent needs to find a rhythm. I believe all three will improve and if not then we can buy a new one in January. It's not ideal, but today has convinced me we are gradually building along the right path.

Last season, we relied on Keane and Berbatov, more-so the Bulgarian. Without him in the the side, we struggled to create anything. Now, we are working towards an entire team unit, closer to our nearest rivals. Stick an almost entirely new team into Arsenal's side and it would take them a long while to play to Wenger's style.

We can gain so much more in the long term by not forcing out results. By avoiding the resort to long-ball, desperate or negative tactics, we can gradually build towards a more total football. If the final outcome of this process is a stronger unit working in a greater unison, destroying teams in the process (like Seville did) then it will all be worth it.

I see what you're saying, but I'd rather force out the results & have more points on the board. Less pressure, less booing, less everything else negative.

never mind the ifs & buts - if we had a striker we may have scored a goal! the fact is we havent - was it 1-0 when Hull hit the inside of the post with the keeper beaten? Lets not forget it was Hull we were playing against as some of our players seemed to think it was Brazil!!! I'll defend the team to the death if they deserve it but we've had a nice run of fixtures at the start of this season & have 2 points from 7 games - whoever is responsible for our transfer dealings this pre season has surely got to carry the can!

If our best performance of the season can produce nothing more than a 0-1 home defeat against a bunch of scrappers, we are genuinely screwed.

And unlucky or not, we lost; and we're bottom of the Prem and look like staying there. I admire your optimism, but we're a poor side, without direction or confidence and getting worse.

I appreciate you sentiments, Polski, and we certainly did play much, much better today.

However, we still lost 0-1 to Hull......HULL. Not Liverpool, Chelseas, or even Blackburn for that matter. We lost to a team widely tipped pre-season to drop back down again.

We are coming to the end of a run of matches which should have all been 3 pointers. Now we have some trickier matches coming up such as Liverpool and Arsenal.

No doubt we will spend a shed load of money in January and we may well get it right this time. The problem is the gap between us and top half of the table gets wider and wider every week. By January, if we continue to lose, we will be royally screwed and no amount of world class strikers will help.

Four weeks ago I was posting positive posts such as yours but every week we lose and every week we seem to be coming up with different excuses. The time for excuses has long gone.

The truth of the matter is that we have a manager who has made some truly shocking tactical decisions. We have a midfield who have been unable to provide balls for a, clearly inadequate, strikeforce. We have wingers who simply cannot provide decent crosses. We have a DoF who's position is fast becoming untenable due to recent media articles. And we have a chairman who is now being forced to eat humble pie by our former manager in the press.

Make no mistake that Spurs are a club in crisis. I have no doubt that we will come good and we certainly will not get relegated. Nevertheless, we are in dire straits and the knock on effect of this crisis may well take several years to correct.

Thats exactly what i saw too. If our best performance in 7 games gets us a 1-0 home defeat to Hull then we best get ready for trips to Swansea, Blackpool, Barnsley, Doncaster etc next season. I've been following Tottenham for a long time & i've never seen them as bad as this season!

We are a good side with direction and are getting better. Our confidence will increase through improved performances which will lead to results. Not the other way round.

Developing consistency in the team will be built from working towards developing a solid, cohesive unit.

I like the sentiment polski but it would be nice to grind out the odd result.

But your right, i think we were missing a few key components, but the team is slowly building to something. Just hope it clicks before its all to late.

I think we will get something of Livo and the scum, Ramos seems to do well against the big teams.

I am so pleased to see that here are other people who saw the same game as me, if we carry on with this improvement then we will start getting some cracking results soon.

I haven't seen the game but it sounds like another day we could have had 7! I think the minority on here have seen signs of improvement in recent games albeit without the results and i agree.

Be patient, i just pray we don't do anything silly over the international break.

Believe me we couldnt! i personally didnt see any improvement over any other game we played this season - except maybe the opposition were weaker! Anyone who says we could have had 7 was certainly watching a different game to me!

Lets not forget we have played Hull, Wigan, Sunderland & Villa at home & have 1 point from them games - something is seriously wrong!

Well said, dude.

On another day (or perhaps rather in another season (in another dimension?)) it would have been another 5-1 or 5-2 win for us. Unfortunately we just didn't have the luck today (or a competent referee), when we needed the result today more than any of our other fairly recent thrashings of teams.

I don't think there's anything more we could have done today, but that happens in football. That happens in anything. If we keep up what we did today, we'll certainly start winning games, so we still just have to try and keep patient, and that includes everyone who works for Tottenham.

I was in the East Upper with my missus and two mates from work as guests who both support Hull City. They were ten seats away from me so I didn't get their reactions until half time and full time.

This is their critique, for what it's worth, bearing in mind they've been to every Hull City game this season bar the Everton draw, when they were 2-0 up.

They reckon we are leaderless and spineless; that there was no general on our team that drove our players on to keep shape and belief.

They couldn't believe that Lennon was taekn off as they felt he was most likely to do damage, until I suggested he may have been taken off to prevent a likely sending off, following his untypical booking for a late tackle on the touch line.

They were in the depths of the Shelf yet found it eeringly quiet - which it was, depressingly so. It transmits itself to the pitch and therefore is reciprical, with the team not playing to drive on our support.

Overall their synopsis was that of the teams they've played so far this season, the ones with most to be concerned about are Spurs and Newcastle.

That summary is from two good mates of mine who happen to support Hull City and are blessing every point as a bonus and are enjoying the moment, so to speak.

5-1 to us! :-? did we have 5 opportunities closer than Hull scoring & hitting the inside of the post??!!

There's a massive difference between a narrow defeat at home to Liverpool and one at home to Hull. We are pathetic at the moment, and the fact that this was one of our better performances is not saying much at all.

it didn't take Sevilla this long to hit a rhythym and neither was it Ramos who built Sevilla. when Ramos took over Sevilla they were alreay 5th and had almost all of the star players already there :)

Dismissing today's performance on the basis that "it was only Hull" is patronising, both to them and the sport of football.
