Milan claim they have been given the go-ahead by Chelsea to open talks with Didier Drogba over a possible move to the Rossoneri.

Drogba is believed to be one of Milan's top summer transfer targets as they look to improve on a disappointing campaign last term when they missed out on qualifying for the UEFA Champions League.

The Ivory Coast international's future has been the subject of intense speculation for some time with the player admitting he is unsettled at Stamford Bridge.

Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani told Sky Sports News earlier this week that he had met with Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon to discuss some matters.

Galliani claims Chelsea have given them the green light to begin discussions with Drogba, but have blocked any move to bring Andrei Shevchenko back to the San Siro.

"Chelsea have authorised us to open negotiations with Drogba," Galliani told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Unfortunately, the response we feared came (for Shevchenko). Chelsea consider Andrei unsellable. This epilogue makes us very sad."

Galliani also revealed that Milan had started talks with Barcelona forward Samuel Eto'o.

Eto'o could leave Barca this summer as the Catalan titans plan to rebuild their squad after a trophyless season last term.

However, Galliani claims Milan face competition from a number of English clubs to sign Cameroon international Eto'o.

Quotes in bold seem to be ridiculous and would probably put any potential managers off. NOt only that Abramovich is looking to change the squad whilst managerless, but that Andriy Shevchenko is unsellable, whilst Drogba - their best player in the last couple of seasons IMO - he can take or leave.

Also, could we be one of a number of English clubs? Probably, but the signing of Eto'o looks unlikely anyway.

If Milan bought both Drogba and Eto'o, then it might be conceivable that they won't go for Berbatov... Unfortunately, that would also leave Barca and Chelski in the market for a striker of his quality...

I would have thought Chelski would have been desperate to get rid of Sheva. He has not adapted to the premiership, he never plays anyway and is on £130k a week. Strange one.

The only thing I can think of is that they're embarrassed to cut there losses. I don't think Milan would have bid more than £10M for him.

Yeah they sort of had to cut a big loss with Crespo and Veron, where they loaned them out to both Milan clubs with them paying part of the wages. I doubt milan would have even bid as much as £10mill, i think they are after the same type of loan deal. Its a shame what has happened to Sheva as at Milan he was unbelievable, could score any type of goal from headers to screamers outside the box, would love him to go back there and recapture some of that form

the shevchenko one is a bit funny, but they could be holding on to him in the hope that the new manager gets him to his best (the ac fella maybe) also roman is pretty gay for him and loves sheva so maybe that has something to do with it

Well it seems a given that both Eto'o and Drogba are movers. Throw in one or two second string as well. likle Gudjohnsen at Barca and very possibly Shev back at Chelsea and the picture starts to get colour that Berby could be in the lime light sometime soon.

Man Utd will want to replace Saha who hasn't pulled up any trees because of injury - broken finger nail I think.

This transfer window has plenty of mileage yet. It's just getting warmed up.
