What's interesting from that snippet is that it would lead you to, realistically imo, believe that there is a set budget/figure we are playing with...now not knowing what that figure is, nor can I be bothered converting dollars into euros or into pounds, I'm wondering whether in combining two pieces of itk/poster info we may get some direction of what is being planned.

There was a snippet yesterday from a (respected) poster from FTL, saying Pleat had said Villa was 'option B'....could it be Demaio was option A, and if to expensive, using the budget for him to get Villa and Bernard? Pretty sure Demaio was being quoted at 23m last season in pounds, well Villa is being touted at 10m to 12m pounds, and Bernard is being touted at roughly 10m pounds...might be the scenario....could also tie in with another itk which stated 2 big names and 4 quality youngsters (or something like that)..could Villa be one of those big names, and Bernard one of those 4 quality youngsters?

Any considered views ?

We'd certainly have a budget to stick to, and getting so many players out of it depends on the deals we can do and the prices we can get. I'm guessing the budget is one big sum that factors into it wages over the course of the contract plus add-ons.

What I'm not convinced of is that we'd be looking at a situation of option A being Damiao, and option B being Villa and Bernard. For a start if that were the case I'd much rather option B to option A. Two quality players, one young for the longer term and one older for the short term is a great deal. It may not be a case of A being preferrential to B. It could be a case of option A is Damiao and (just to pluck a player out) Pjanic, and option B is an alternative of Villa and Bernard due to the fact that they'd possibly work out at the same cost. The obstacle being if Pjanic and Villa are unobtainable and trying to get Damiao and Bernard to fit the budget instead, or vice versa.

Can't help but feel you're right about that, he doesn't ever come out with any statements saying how he'd love to join us, just says that he's open to the idea. He'll want to join a team that can either raise his profile by paying a whopping fee for him along with big wages, or a team that can promise him titles. We can't do either, but what we can provide for him is a stepping stone into European football. He may see the latter as a good enough reason to join us ultimately. What I hope though is that, like Sandro, he'll grow to love the club whilst he is here, even if he does use us as a stepping stone.

I just answered somebody else elsewhere, who said exactly the same thing about him never coming out with a statement of intent about wanting to join us.. Maybe it's worth thinking about?

I see your point, re Damiao needing to come out with a statement of intent, but do you know what? THAT is the one thing I actually like about the guy!! Remember how we felt when Berbatov made a statement of intent about wanting to leave our club? Remember how we all felt & reacted when Modric made his statement of intent about wanting to move away from our club? Remember how we felt when Keane handed in his transfer request & made his statement of intent about wanting to leave our club for Liverpoo?

All of those players were adored by supporters, now they just leave a very sour taste in our mouths every time we utter their names. Go to Google, type in "Damiao wants to leave Internacional", see the results you get, NONE!!. Maybe he is just not wanting to upset supporters who worship him like a hero?

That's a fair point mate. Ultimately, I couldn't give a toss as long as if he comes here he's 100% for the cause.

I think there is some truth on Bernard, got this from ESPN reporter in Brasil.

It says we use Damiao funds for Bernard.... Yippee!!!

this feels like typical journalist fabrication imo. why would some south american espn reporter be privy to our transfer budget and also be informed that 1) we have a specific pot for LD, and also that 2) we now have diverted a specific sum from that pot ?

Just because I'm desperately trying to cling to ANY possible positive, maybe we've made it clear that we've had enough of being dicked around by Internacional & Damiao's fuckwit agent, this has become known in Brazil, so it's logical that they come to the conclusion that we are now diverting the Damiao money in the direction of Bernard?

I still have a few straws left to clutch at too lol

EDIT: Or I could have just applied a little common sense, as Syn_13 did..

Considered...?
We have to factor in a lot of things:
1) all ITK and discussion is speculative - even a direct quote from Daniel Levy is unlikely to be 100% accurate as there are tactics in play in terms of negotiating and balancing that against keeping the fans happy.
2) there are negotiations taking place and all bids (even if we saw the figures) are tactical
3) we are dealing in a world where money is treated completely differently to the rest of the universe: bear in mind that clubs are getting a huge increase in TV revenues and having to balance this against billionaire investors and FFP

I think Levy is the kind of accountant who keeps an eye on the bottom line and would have sums of money in place for each category of player but he is also a shrewd negotiator who would be quite happy to let the world know that he can only afford one signing if it meant he could get two for less money.

So, taking into account the fact that we know nothing and cannot start to imagine the logic used in these scenarios, who knows! Sit back and enjoy the ride! I think there is a very good chance we will get half of the players we are serious about and then pick up an interesting bargain at the end of the window. I just hope that the players we get are right forAVB and exciting to watch. Bernard and Damiao seem to tick those boxes at the moment. If the budget/egos won't stretch to them, I am sure there are plan Bs around.

How on earth does one sit back and enjoy the ride...perish the thought.

Good post.

I tend to look for trends with (respected) ITK, rather than taking the proverbial pinch (although I utterly ignore as a general internet sites like clubcall and calciomercato, sites of that ilk). I neither dismiss nor take as concrete rather that I consider that there will be a pool/list of players the Club will be interested in.

For example, one trend I look for, are players we have been linked in previous windows and seeing whether their names resurface more strongly in subsequent windows...Berbatov was a classic example, where it was quite clear to me in retrospect, that all the work to bring him to the Lane had occurred in the previous couple of windows, from interest, to negotiations to culmination of transfer, his name having been bandied about in interweb land, innocuously at first, gathering pace over time...obviously, work on transfers isn't restricted solely in windows, but they do gather pace I dare say.

The Pleat itk yesterday caught my eye, because it could seam into another piece of info, in this case the very liberal 2 + 4 piece, with regards a particular player mentioned in previous windows. In the Pleat itk, it mentions an interest in a Dutch u21, which would accommodate one f the 4 youngsters of quality piece, and when viewing or remembering past itk/info on players we've been 'linked' with, the name Maher springs to mind...and considering Levy's MO appears to be investing in young talent or players on the periphery of reaching their potential, it seems to be info worth paying heed to rather than dismissing out of hand.

Obviously not an exact science, Siggy and Holtby more or less came out of the blue as indeed was VdV...but in passing a lazy afternoon, seeking logic in speculative info can be quite interesting to a bored mind and may lead to a fair idea of what actually may be going on...as long as its kept in the subjunctve tense of mind thought.

Early bid catches the worm - that was deliberate by the way - City do not have a manager yet, if they are serious about Pellegrini then they need to let him make the decisions - we have about a week to get the bids in on players while the top 3 clubs have not got their acts together.

its a shame its not august 24th then isn't it? :(

Intelligent run, see how he beat the offside trap.... Problem is who can deliver that killer pass in the current squad?
