While I really like what i have seen of Bernard, I just don't see how we have the money for him in the budget unless Bale is leaving, which for me would not be a good thing for Spurs.

My guess is we get Paulinho (who I love and think could be fantastic for Spurs) and Villa and some unknown type young striker and there goes our budget for the summer.

What would be an educated guess as to how much this kid might cost us if he did actually come to Spurs? 15 million? 20? Just throwing out numbers and would to hear what everyone thought?

As of right now it sounds like Mineiro know they have a hot commodity and are holding out for 25m Euros. Personally, despite being a big fan of Bernard, I don't think he's worth that. 20m Euros I would be okay with, but 25 Euros is past the tipping point for me.

Also, I wouldn't say that Villa/Paulinho and a young/cheap signing is our window. It was widely reported we offered 17m for Damiao after we purchased Holtby in January. We get a 12m payout for getting 5th in the EPL. We took home some cash (probably not more the 2m) from the Europa League. We still have what many feel will be multiple sales. And, we already have Jenas, Bentley and Gallas off the wage bill for next season. I think there could be more money available than we think.

I will be honest and say €20mill it still a lot, I mean are we saying that Bernard is a better player than Thiago(different I know), Paulinho, Schurrle(or as good in this case), PEA, Song and etc.

I know I will be shot down for this, but I been watching highlights of Falque at Almeria and he is the type of player we were desperate for last season but I think he should be loaned out and potentially look at Bernard if he is cheap but €20million would make him our most expensive signing and that is a big risk imo

I guess allowing that maybe Levy has put 25/30 mill into the kitty (we were supposedly close to both Moutinho and Leandro in Jan) then lets say Paulinho and Villa took that
You then have the probables that will be off, Livermore, Hudd, Parker. Gomes and the possibles Townsend, Rose. Benny, Naughton you can maybe raise £25 mill selling a number of them

You'd need a lb out of that money and I would say a creative mid/am

You are then left with choices-sell one or other of JD or Ade to raise a bit of cash for a young striker

You weigh up selling Siggy and Dempsey to raise funds towards a player like Bernard

I think there's a bit of flexibility in there, I think Siggy and Dempsey are useful bench options but equally think we could get maybe £10 mill for Siggy and £3 or £4 mill still for Dempsey, I guess it comes down to what AVB would prefer

Agree with you about Falque, but cant see Carroll, Townsend, Rose, Caulker and Falque all being given sufficient game time next season.
Although in my opinion , all of the above are very close to being prem players, AVB will want to at least be contenders next season, as this will be the season he will be judged on by the media, ie his team. I think that means he is going to want established players,

Surprised Scolari is going for Hulk again after doing nothing of note the entire cup and not Bernard or Mora. I guess its good on one hand as it won't push up Bernards value or extend his list of suitors.... Saying that I would have liked to see him play.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/...-expect-Bernard-exit-amid-Premier-League-talk

Atletico Mineiro head coach Cuca has admitted that in-demand midfielder Bernard is likely to leave the club in the near future.

The 20-year-old, part of Brazil's Confederations Cup-winning squad, has been linked with a move to the Premier League during the transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with a swoop for Bernard and reportedly sent scouts to Brazil to watch him in action, while Chelsea have also been credited with an interest.

Porto are among the other clubs believed to be monitoring Bernard's situation and he recently admitted he was considering a switch to the Portuguese champions.

Cuca concedes that it will be difficult to hold on to such a player but says Mineiro would be able to cope as they have a tradition of developing excellent youngsters.

He told UOL: "Atletico Mineiro won't be able to keep Bernard, but this is natural.

"We have to take advantage of having him in Libertadores and if he leaves, as it seems it will happen, it's up to us to develop another player like him."

Think we've still got a good chance here. Realistically it's us, Porto and Dortmund, unless they've dropped out the race in the last month. Unless he's after cash/wants to aggravate a squad overrun with attacking talent, he wouldn't go to Chelsea.

Not that it would really change much, but Porto are apparently close to adding the young Colombian Juan Quintero who they will also view as a winger. He's in the James Rodriguez mold as he can play as an AM or a Winger.

He could be a pretty expensive purchase for them, so it's something to keep an eye on as it could divert their attention from Bernard.

Bernard was always going to wait until after libertadores. It seems to have gone very cold on this one for us, whether that is because we've dropped our interest or because we're just busy with other deals while we're waiting we'll just have to wait to see.

or it was agreed ages ago and just not announced out of respect to the club and player?

Your logic or reasoning behind that? I don't see that as similar players at all.

Both are young players with a potentially high sell-on value. Both are perhaps not quite ready for the first team (although Bernard would make a very strong case). Looking at our previous dealings, I would be very (pleasantly) surprised to see us outlay over £15m in three deals (Paulinho included) - especially for players so young. Though, this will depend on how the £20m for the Croatians will be paid.

Shewww. At the end of this tw we could potentially spend:

17m paulinho
20m bernard
17m vedaj hallilovic
8m villa

thats 62m in total

In theory, we might. I just highly doubt we're spending anywhere near 17m for Jedvaj and Halilovic up-front. I'd bet that it's in small increments over time.

I would not see Bernard as a alternative to Halilovic, if anything Halilovic would be a future replacement for Bale. Oscar was 20, same age as Bernard, when he moved to Chelsea last summer and I personally think Bernard looks better now then Oscar did at Inter. I don't see why Bernard couldn't start on the left, obviously there will be some adjustment period but that will be the case with all foreign players we bring in and we have the added bonus of a manager that speaks his language and international team mates that can help him settle. Apparently we are also looking at Macmaneman who is 22, priced at 15mil and, in my mind, is not as good and doesn't have the same potential that Bernard has... He would be worth it.

I'm with those that think the Croatian deal will end any thoughts of Bernard.
Beyond Bernard, we have been linked with Doria, giving us an up and coming CD option, plus a skilful AM. Is it really a coincidence that for those two positions, now read Jedvaj and Halilovic. Granted, a couple of years younger and less proven, but arguably cheaper and more doable deal.
As many have said, Miniero know what they have, and are asking a big price. The Croatian boys are a year or two back on development, but no less talented apparently, and could both be done for less than Bernard would cost on his own, let alone adding on Doria's fee too.

Watching bernard he looks real class, hes ready to come & compete for a place in our team, we need more options and bernard has everything im looking for in a attacking player and i hope avb does too..... so doubt it will be him or halilovic because we're going to wait aleast another year for him to join & we deffo need someone in before then.
