[Update 283] Dwain on Veloso

Possible ITK on Veloso and Moutinho.

i say possible as i've never got any info from him before so this is a 1st time ITK from this person.

Just spoken to a friend who is fairly close to the top echelons at sporting lisbon. i've known this person for 6 years so personally trust his info and passing on in good faith. he has no reason to make anything up.

i asked him about veloso and to either confirm/deny reports . he has conveyed the following:

sporting are aware of the interest of veloso from mainly 3 clubs.......spurs, arsenal and ac milan.

all these interests were registered towards the tail-end of last season but only spurs and ac milan made a firm bid. he would not disclose the amounts but both were acceptable at the time. veloso was told of this interest and he mentioned that he would prefer to play for a team playing in the champions league abroad. the funny thing is, the 2 clubs that bid, spurs and milan did not qualify for the champs league but arsenal did.

arsenal were the only club not to make a formal bid and did not follow up their interest. ac milan also dropped their interest due to their financial constraints of not qualifying for the champions league and they had other priority areas to fill which just leaves us as of now who have a fixed interest in the player. it was not clear why arsenal dropped their interest.

he said that veloso was disappointed that arsenal did not follow up their interest as he would have favoured a move to the premiership and to a champions league club but has not ruled out a move to spurs. he is a player with a large ego but backs it up with his talent and has a huge belief in himself.

there is no issue of terms being agreed with the club. it's a case of the player being convinced. he is aware of the efforts being made to sign him. i asked him if ramos personally flew over to meet officials and the player but he could not confirm this.

finally i asked him what are the odds of veloso being a spurs player next season.......

he said it's fully in the balance.......50/50 and it's upto the thfc management to convince veloso that he will flourish and be successful at spurs however if arsenal do come in with a better bid then veloso will not need much convincing.....sporting have set veloso a deadline to make his mind up either way.

On a side note, my contact said that he was surprised that no champions league club had gone in for Moutinho and that the club and player have laughed off the interest from everton. so far only one derisory bid has been made (what we know already from press reports) and the player virtually said "i've never even heard of them!". sporting believe that moutinho will become one of the best midfielders in the world and the fee should reflect that. his ambition is to play for either man utd or chelsea.

it's likely moutinho will stay for one more season at sporting.

right, that's it. sorry for the long post but i wanted to make sure i got everything down which was discussed.

hi everyone, just got a text from the same contact regarding veloso which i want to share, better news!......

"there's been significant movement in the last 24hrs. things looking a bit more postive for your boys. make it 60/40 now. you must have offered him good ££"

in a seperate text, i had asked about adrien silva. this was his reply.
"v hot prospect and was looked at by seville last yr +other euro clubs. will be another superstar and sporting fans would revolt if he was sold now. not going anywhere"

just a quick update.

spoke to him briefly this evening. a jist of what he had to say:

"talks are progessing well although a few complications in contract and fee s to be ironed out. there is a small issue with payments which should not be a big problem.
paolo barbosa isn't the easiest person to deal with and neither are your people (spurs) by some accounts. as mentioned sporting have set a deadline and do not have unlimited patience on this, so unless your people push this through veloso will stay put for now. your people want him in place by season start but are prepared to let it run till deadline as long as they get their man. unfortunately for you, sporting do not share the same view so it's up to your people to seal it if you really really want this guy. he will be a monster signing for you. good luck, you'll need it!"

hello everyone, another quick update. i saw him today and would like to pass on the following:

general terms:

"last hand has been played.
no major issue between the clubs. things have progessed well.
it's down to agent and player now to finally agree with spurs. your people are no longer there and flew back to work on other things. they are confident. it appears that you still have other options but this deal should close by next week otherwise he will stay for now unless sporting hold out"

the press:

"do not expect any quotes from player in the press right now. it doesn't work like that there. especially with him. they want a clean deal without any further complications"

"the hacks at your end will probably pick up stories and fabricate stories and quotes probably by the weekend/early next week. it's slightly more controlled at theirs." -----(nice little sideswipe there!)

deal odds:

"overall deal is 80/20 in my opinion. you are close but not close enough for comfort. vultures can always circle. you are not at the point of no return yet"

others:

"as i said to you a few days back moutinho will not go anywhere this window. don't care what other sources/papers say. this will be the last major cash sale for sporting if it goes through. player is currently injured but should not be any major complications in medical if it goes that far"

"you better start brushing up on portugese and russian just in case!"

"latest update via convo i had with him a little earlier......here is the jist of all he said:

"sporting have shifted goalposts so to speak and want a little sweetner. your people are not happy about it although this is what happens when things drag on. they know how loaded you are and will try and squeeze. it's to be expected. you have an extension to finalise with player and agree terms. i know for a fact that you are working on several other deals but your people are taking a big risk in leaving this one open. once you've lost him he's gone. either way enjoy the 13th and your usual chaotic build up to the season!"

as he's met veloso before i asked about him generally:

"he is part of the new golden generation of players coming through for portugal. all of them, veloso, ronaldo, nani, pepe, bosingwa, mountinho etc. are around the same age group and will be the mainstay in years to come. veloso is already a very good player (he actually thinks he's better than he actually is!) but with the right guidance will become one of the best in the world in his position. he has an over-inflated ego but that's the case with most of the afformentioned players but at the same time they back it up with class. one of the reasons why ronaldo is so great is because he works so hard and has always wanted to improve and become the best in the world. veloso has the same ambitions and has the desire to work to his target."

"he has a strong belief in his ability and knows he can develop his skills at a decent premiership team. as with most players playing in europe, they have an ambition of playing for the big boys in the premiership at some point. he has good advisors around him and knows that it's always risky holding out for a man utd for example where he may crash and burn."

"in my opinion he's better off moving to a lesser club like yourselves and developing rather than at a man utd, chelsea or arsenal for example where he would be more under the microscope. i think he would be better off at spurs where you have the ideal set up really. i haven't met any of his advisors recently but i'm positive they would share that opinion. it's not just about money. spurs are not a champions league outfit but everyone knows that ramos is a top top coach and that could swing it in your favour"

"his fitness is ok now although a little rusty which is understable. he's played a bit part role in a couple of pre-season games and is progressing well. like i said to you before there would be no issues with any medical"

"if you really want an answer i think he will be yours. it's just a matter of time........and money!"

had not heard back from him for a while (been away in portugal) so i sent a text yesterday to find out the situation with veloso.....

"any news on veloso, deal dead!?"

response i got earlier this evening:

"no, deal still on, don't give up just yet. slow but steady and all that. he's urs if you REALLY want him. ball back in ur ct"

seperate text:

"i saw him last week at training session. back to nr full fitness. raring to go with whatever club he ends up playing for by 1 sep. mentally ready either way"

i have spoken to him in the last hour. mixed news. a summary:

-no problems anymore between spurs and veloso. veloso is happy to join us. no probs with personal terms. (thats the good news!)

-a few issues between spurs and sporting over payments and terms which is whats causing the delay. sporting want a higher up front settlement and a sell-on clause.

-when i asked if there were other vultures circling he said yes, but that is always likely to happen the closer we hit the deadline. there have been 3 other clubs which have made late enquiries but sporting are getting bored of this saga and either want finish the deal with us or pull the plug on the whole matter. they are not desperate for money and would be happy to see the player stay.

-overall he said that sporting were not happy with the "game of chance" we were playing and trying to squeeze the best deal in the final days but atleast they are still willing to do business.

-lastly he said that expect it to go right to the wire either way.

[Update 74] dwain - Parker
When: 03/06/11
Where: COYS
Spoke to a contact I have at West Ham last night. He's very conversant with the board there and knows what's going on. I trust his info 100% and it's been passed on in good faith. The Scott Parker deal to us sealed and has been for a while now. Will be announced soon. I personally don't like the way he shunted us in the past but whatever, he's had a decent season and would be an upgrade on Wilson.
