I mean I hope this happens but it's been about 4 summers that we've hoped for a clearout at the back and in that time we've struggled to move on anyone.

Feels a bit too good to be true that we'd sign 3 CBs and get rid of all our deadwood in a single window.
It does look like a "ruthless" approach from the club and Ange could be a real difference now. Despite Jose and Conte's records, and their requests for specific players, maybe they were always happy to keep the others around for whatever reasons - better to have bodies around the place just in case, capable of good performances on occasion etc

By contrast, Ange seems far more like he will only ever consider using players who fit the system rather than risk all his plans by crowbarring players in just because they are there. Sounds like he might well be telling the club that certain players definitely won't work so will never play for the club again. This could encourage unwanted players and their agents to find a move away a bit more urgently than in previous years.

No way do we sign 3 cbs. People need to temper their expectations.

I'm pretty much certain we'll keep Dier as a backup. As much as he fell off badly last season, he is still a decent squad player in the short term.

Don't like the idea of Dier anywhere near a high press in a back 4. Would be a massive drop off from Tapsoba imo.

Did Emerson occasionally get deployed at CB last season, or did I imagine that?

If so, that could be a way of solving our need for three CBs, while keeping hold of both Porro and Spence. I'd be happy for all three of those to stay, I think we'd regret losing Spence so soon.

I think both Emerson and Spence have capacity to play elsewhere other than just RB.

At LB, if we were to keep one of Reguilon and Davies... I'd choose Reguilon personally.

I don't disagree to be fair & if Porro is seen as a potential option at RW aswell then it could mean Spence could stay. My only concern is Spence only ending up playing 5 or 6 games all season as 3rd choice RB and us giving him away in a year for next to nothing.

I also agree about Reguilon but my only concern is that he is injured an awful lot. Davies, for his faults, is very rarely injured and is reliable.

I think this is the strongest argument for it actually happening.

Ange being adaptable and comfortable with high turnover in a single window and Levy seemingly being OK with this approach is encouraging. Think he signed about 12 players in his first season at Celtic and a similar number left the club.

Tapsoba + 1 signing would also be a massive signal to the old guard that they're not going to get much game time next season, which might also make them more keen to leave. Sanchez and Tanganga barely got any minutes last season anyway.

I don't disagree. But i'm thinking he is more likely to fourth choice. As in if Romero got injured, Tapsoba would play right side and a left footed back up (VDV or Lenglet) would step in as third choice back up.

However, I think if our press is good enough we don't need super fast centre backs, just smart ones, or fast full backs who can cover.

Dier used to be a Def Mid, and has played well there (bit like stones has done for Man C) and his distribution and through balls used to be very good.
I wonder if its worth keeping him to cover Def Mid where his lumbering will affect the back line less?

Anyway, Tapsoba thread - would be very please with his signing if we can pull it off.

I think he's a good dressing room presence as well, I think he's somebody who has a very good attitude but when he starts to feel the pressure, he can start to blame others. So a role as a back up probably brings out his best qualities.

Think Dier became too immobile to play as a DM about 4 years ago tbh, and even then I thought he was the weak link in that Poch side.

Ange is all about mobility - I think he'd be a train wreck playing in midfield in 2023.

Agree, his hips are fucked and it takes forever for him to turn around, DMs really need perfect health (see prime Wanyama).

God no. He’s not that player any more his passing and mobility is awful now.

While our two new signings have been bang in the money in areas we needed, a deal like this is ridiculously vital as our issues at CB have been the basis for most of our issues

Totally agree. Looking at our back line its not over the top to say that for next season we need:

GK - VICARIO / Forster
LB - UDOGIE / Davies
LCB - NEW / NEW
RCB - Romero / NEW
RB - Porro / Emerson

So potentially:
Buy - Tapsoba? VDV? Lenglet? Tosin?

Sell - Dier, Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga, Sessegnon, Perisic, Reguilon & Spence (potentially).
Why would you sell Dier if all you are going to do is buy Lenglet?
