Not sure. Personally I'd rather move kulusevski in there or use Devine and make sure we are thoroughly covered as far as the back line is concerned. If say we had 80mil left to spend I'd be all in on 2 CB's and see what I had left for other area's once they were 100% in place. It's the one position considering Ange's style I don't think we can afford to compromise too much on personally. Tapsoba AND VDV for me not either or.
I agree re defenders. We 100% shouldn't be compromising at all in that position. It's been a problem area for years and for me it wont be a good window unless that problem is fixed. Tapsoba should be brought in regardless if we get VdV IMO. Fact is Romero will get injured or suspended and just like that we will look shaky again if we brought in VDV and Lenglet say. But aside from that the only thing with moving Kulu central than we will need another option on the RW. As it is Kulu is the only natural RW we have. I guess maybe if Ange thinks Gil can be switched but he's always looked uncomfortable on the right both here and back in Spain. We also certainly need to figure out what we are doing with Devine, ether he needs to be given a good amount of game time or he needs to go out on loan.

Split the difference and play 4231 with Bissouma next to Bentancur. When one goes forward other stays back. Maddison as the 1 in front. It's going to be interesting to see if he plays inverted fullbacks though because that would work best in a 433. Yet our attackers play inside and generally fullbacks will play outside. If we got VdV and Tapsoba I'm not sure how much VdV would play left back. I get the impression he would suit more the inverted role. I would suggest it would just be a matter of best partnerships starting in order. So Tapsoba + Romero, VdV + Tapsoba, VdV + Romero as 1st 2nd and 3rd choice. If 2 are out or need to rest use 4th choice Dier or whoever else we keep. I would expect 3 rotating a bit wouldn't play the bulk of games like Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Sanchez under Poch.

This 100%. We need those defenders in as priority before any other position.

I'm sure I read ITK somewhere about Kulusevski being too good to pass up on the deal and wasn't someone who fits Ange system as a winger. So possibly he could be utilised as an attacking 8 and reinvented by Ange? Then we go and buy another attacking winger later in the window, dependant on outs as well as Ange getting a look at everyone during preseason.

We could see Porro pushed up into RW.

This is all very well but it doesn't address the central point, where the fuck is Tapsobe going to play?

I think we need to be careful in suggesting that VDV would be a compromise on Tapsoba, just because the former is cheaper. Not sure if you're suggesting that but both of these players are untested in the PL and that is the biggest leveler for any player outside of England. Even Varane struggled in his first season.

VDV is younger with huge potential. I've read that he has all the attributes to be a superstar. You know if we dont sign him, a club like Dortmund will and then they'll sell him to City or Madrid 2 years later for 100m. He's also left footed and incredibly fast (we've all seen the video).

Tapsoba appears more "ready to go" but again, is he any more adaptable because he's 2 years older? Not necessarily. That sort of intangible comes down to character and personality IMO. I've also read he's more aggressive, a bit like Romero, which is potentially risky if we're presumably pairing those 2 together.

I do agree though that it would be nice to bring in both, perhaps though the issue comes back to HG status? If we sign VDV, I'd expect us to add Tosin, who is also young and HG. If we signed Tapsoba, perhaps we'd then go for Kilman, who is also HG and not overly expensive IIRC. It's a tough one. I certainly don't disagree with you overall though.

As far as Devine goes, I think a loan to the championship would be perfect for him this season. I'm more concerned that we give Sarr some minutes as he's shown he can play at this level and would be a good rotation option in the number 8 role.

I don't think many think we should be compromising on one over the other. Many feel that the CB spine of the team has been weak for sometime now, with the exception of possibly only Romero, since Jan & Toby left, being near the required quality.
Personally I think we need two and two good ones, it is not a position for compromise, it needs to be a position of strength. Not sure who the two should be, but might be worth going the few extra million for those of the necessary quality.

Agree but if we did this then we'd need to sign another wide AM otherwise if Maddison is out and Kulu is playing n.o10 we'd have Son and Solomon but 0 options off the bench in those areas.

It should be the 2x CB's you say as a priority but we'd still need to sign at least one more AM even if Devine is going to get a few more minutes.

It would currently be Richarlison and Gil? I think Gil suddenly became a lot more interesting if we are playing a 10.

I was assuming Kane was leaving and Richy was up top mate and Gil hasn't shown very good end product so far but yea if Kane stays and Gil improves his end product then those two options aren't the worst.

Its an interesting puzzle for sure but certainly hope we sign both VDV and Tapsoba!

I'd be disappointed if it was VDV and Tosin rather than VDV and Tapsoba as I don't think either would require huge outlandish fees but Tosin also has potential in Ange's style of football system for sure.
