just seen mourinhos press conference he looks like he got hit by a bus.

Yes, strangely I think it will make Real a better side. They were lightyears behind Barca yesterday but against everyone else they will be fine. They have a tough game next against Valencia but I fully expect them to win that. They could finish second with 100 points this year.

Well Mourinho found out how good this Barcelona team is when he tried to come out and attack them. Can't park the bus in a Classico, Real fans would never allow it.

Gooner on Sky Sports comments:

Delano Joseph (Arsenal) says...

I didn't watch the game though i saw the highlights. But on the whole without taking anything from Barcelona, i cant conclude that they are un beatable team. Jose wasn't up to it that night otherwise there was no way the special one could have allowed his team to play without any tactical discipline. If they are to be the best the litmus test is in England. I just hope they ever get a chance to play arsenal at its full strength. There is totally no competition in Spain. Am just tired of hearing Barca/Madrid

Am I the only one who finds the "they can't do it against English teams" excuse extremely tiresome? It is a sort of "I refuse to give you any credit!" scenario, and any evidence that is contrary to their view (thumping Arsenal and beating Utd) is just ignored. Not to mention the arrogance in thinking a full strength Arsenal would stand a chance against Barça is they played like they did last night.

I agree completely with this. I find the whole thing about not giving Barcelona credit a bit annoying. I saw a lot of comments last night about how crap R Madrid were which was the reason behind the result. Nothing to do with Barca playing well and barely letting them touch the football.

If Barca were in the Premier League, they would probably sign a couple more battlers to suit the English game. But they would still dominate possession and rip most teams apart. They have a squad that was built for Spanish football for obvious reasons. Its the same if any English club played in Spain. They would have to adapt to the technical game in La Liga, so would need more technical footballers.

Its funny how none of the current England internationals play in non English Leagues. Yet people still question if a team full of World Champions and the best footballer in the world can play in England. The question is whether the English players can play in La Liga. I haven't seen too many set that league alight over the years.

Last year Arsenal saw how to play their own passing game better than they ever can. They may be the easiest team on the eye in the PL, but they got schooled at their own game last year, and it was only Barca easing back in the 2nd half that saved them from a real hiding.

Arsenal fans. Sigh.

You're not the only one at all mate. No team is unbeatable, but imo Barca are comfortably the finest side in the world right now. They were devastating last night. The goons can play lovely football, but their weakness at the moment seems to be a lack of cutting edge at times and a tendency to over-play things. Barca play with more pace, more precision and a ruthless efficiency.

Villa has made them even more lethal, his movement last night was exceptional, a constant threat and when combined with the glorious passing abilities of Xavi, Iniesta and Messi, it's nigh on impossible to defend against. They destroyed a team of superstars under probably the best manager in the world last night.

And let's not ignore their defending - they chase and harry teams superbly and with the same pace that makes them so effective going forward. They are a wonderful team made up of brilliant individuals and they'll go down as one of the all time great sides.

Xavi completed 114 out of 117 passes, that's just insane. That's about double the attempted passes that most midfielders in the epl attempt, and none have such a success rate.

its not just that he completes passes. he always keeps them tempo up, he always wants the ball, he seems like he has forever on the ball as well.

Excellent points from DEFchenkOE, llamafarmer, mil1lion, spursandbarca, kishman et al.

As already been said, Barca are so much more effective with David Villa and Pedro next to Messi rather than with Henry and Ibra, one of whom ruled in EPL and the other would most likely flourish too. There were none of the long high balls to a "target man" and trying to get to one of the knock-downs last night. Instead, the high tempo of passing and movement (with signature "no more than 2 touches on the ball" before next pass) and constant collective pressing to get the ball back completely overwhelmed even a team like Mourinho's Real Madrid, creating numerous chances and leading to 5 goals.

The fact that almost 9 out of 11 regular first team players were developed through Barca academy is hugely significant in maintaining smooth progress with same values in football philosophy and attitude/application.

Ridiculous from the Arsenal fan. But you expect that.

Magnificent from Messi for Villa's second goal. I mean that move and pass just displays why he is miles better than Cristiano, if anyone still needed any proof...which they shouldn't.
I've never seen Cristiano play a pass as good as that - he just doesn't have it in his game. Excellent player but..for all the attributes he does have, if we look at probably the most important skill in football - passing ability - he is distinctly average.
I mean for all the ridiculous blogs on Messi vs Ronaldo before the match...Barca have three players who are great, great players and comfortably better than C. Ronaldo in real terms (influence on games). On this evidence Villa is probably better too.
