Well said El Tel...!!

Former Tottenham manager Terry Venables has laid the blame for the club's poor start to the season squarely at Dimitar Berbatov's door.
Venables claims the Bulgarian's 'poisonous presence' at the beginning of the campaign has unsettled the whole squad.
Berbatov started the season at White Hart Lane but made clear his desire to realise a 'dream' move to current club Manchester United.
Speculation over Berbatov's future dominated Spurs' early matches as manager Juande Ramos wrestled with whether or not to select the striker, who eventually signed for the Red Devils in a £30million deal on transfer deadline day
Spurs are rooted to the bottom of the table after making their worst ever start to a Premier League season and Ramos is finding himself under increasing pressure.
But Venables, who last week turned down the chance to return to top-flight management with Newcastle, believes the club's current strife stems from Berbatov.
Blast

"Berbatov kept telling us he had 'a dream'. Well, good for you Dimi. You had a dream with a few extra noughts added to your bank balance," Venables told The Sun."But did Spurs have a dream too? You got your way but your poisonous presence at the start of the season - the brooding and the reluctance to play - has cost the club that believed in you."
Venables also believes the Spurs board made a mistake in selling Berbatov's strike partner Robbie Keane to Liverpool before they had a replacement.
Blunder

"They thought they were going to get Andrei Arshavin," added Venables.
"This was a massive managerial blunder by Spurs, especially when they had allowed Keane to leave. But letting Berbatov and Keane go without having Arshavin in the bag was a boardroom blunder."

I do not think El-hand-in the-till is on the high moral ground accusing anyone else of being venal.

Yeah, does no one else see the irony!

i think he's spot on really, uncertaincy over berba and failure to secure a creative forward who can drop off and link up has royally fucked us up!

I'm not one to judge but Tel is talking shite or trying to get on side with the board  I wonder why!!!

The only people to bame here is (in order)

Comolli because its his job to find replacements and he did not.

Levy because its his job to see that comolli is doing his job and also he was the one who let the transfer saga go on for so long.

Ramos because no matter what happens up in the board room his job is to deal with what he's got and rotation just does not work however in his defence Pav came in late so its a bit of trial and error

The team because they get paid to play to the best of their abilities which clearly they are not ( even though the rotation and out of positions don't help)

The fans because the team needs support not abuse

That's just my opinion.

not sure about this at all, we could have coped no bother without berbatov but keane was spurs - this is why we have had a poor start - Keane never give up and if any one watched the Liverpool v utd game - Keane was the reason Liverpool won - his workrate is immense and he encourages other players around him to work harder.

Big mistake letting keane go- 20m does'nt seem quite enough now

Getting onside with the board?

Did you not read the last couple of sentences?

He's blaming them for something that isn't entirely their fault, cos he's still angry that Sugar caught him taking a bung (or whatever it was)

I think El Tel is right on all counts. If we had Arshavin we would be OK right now, in fact I honestly think we would be doing pretty well right now.

Spurs through and through that fella.

If you read the full article that this is quoted from he actually doesn't blame Berbatov, beyond saying that he felt Berbatov owed us a bit more effort. The main thrust of his article is actually aimed at recognising that the failure to bring in Arshavin or other replacements for our top players, has given rise to our current situation....so basically he's come out and said what we all said 6 matches ago.

I agree with him because he agrees with me. Now I know how the Martin Jol gayers feel.

You sure about that. He would have been another midget in our team who does not score many. Our derence would still be shocking due to it changing every game, have a midfield who dont tackle and a manager who would probably still be chopping and changing the team....

As for Ven's being Spurs through and through.... he has season tickets for Chavski!!!

He would have acted as some level of replacement for Keane, so yes, I agree we would have been better (although not necessarily great). Biggest problem is we have no commanding players or players with footballing brains. We need a Teddy or a Keane, a Carrick or a Davids in the side. Someone to go out there and make it happen. Who's our best bet right now? Ledley? The part time captain? Jenas? The clown of many interviews?

It's easy to see who people feel that a strong, intelligent or linking player would have been a great help.

a) He didn't have to find them. Ramos told him who he wanted.

b) I see. International transfer dealing goes something like this:

Russian Bloke: Hello?

Daniel Levy: Good morning! This is Daniel Levy, Chairman of Tottenham Hotspur PLC. Is this the President of Zenit St. Petersburg I'm speaking to?

Russian Bloke: Da.

Daniel Levy: Excellent! I'd like to buy one of your players, my good man.

Russian Bloke: Which one?

Daniel Levy: Young Mr Andrei Arshavin, if you please.

Russian Bloke: How much you offering?

Daniel Levy: 20 million Euros sound about right?

Russian Bloke: Done! I'll have him in the post tomorrow. You want him gift-wrapped? No extra charge.

Daniel Levy: I'm sure Mr Ramos would greatly appreciate that little touch.
