I would have posted in the transfers forum, but it's not available anymore?

Anyway, Croatian media is reporting that Tottenham are interested in Hajduk Split's talented midfielder Elvir Maloku:

http://slobodnadalmacija.com/Hajduk/tabid/83/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/226313/Default.aspx

He was in Croatia's squad for the recent U17 World Cup and was probably the best player (despite being played out of position by Croatia's clueless manager). He's a very energetic player who always gives 100%. He primarily plays on the left attacking side (4-2-3-1), although he was played everywhere, including centrally(defensively) in the recent tournament. He's had a few appearances for Hajduk's senior side and has impressed. He has no fear. Good at taking players on.

Anyway, to summarize the article:

Tottenham sent a "secret scout" (an Italian) to watch Maloku, both in his junior league matches and for the senior side (recent cup game). He was accompanied by former Hajduk/Croatia player Milan Rapaic.

When asked about the scout and if it was true, Hajduk's president Marin Brbic said: "Yes, scouts are always following Maloku, they were present in the cup game as well. It's not a secret, but so far there haven't been any concrete offers."

When asked about his price, he said that he already addressed that. (<--- this is in reference to a recent quote where he said "If Halilovic is worth 20m euros, then Maloku is worth at least 12m.")

He was recently in Corriere dello Sport's "Top 40" footballing talents. He also spent some time with Juventus (on shorts trials, before his transfer to Hajduk this summer, from Rijeka) and they were said to be impressed. They have continued to monitor his play, and have recently been linked with him (again), along with Borussia Dortmund, Monaco, etc.

How interested are Tottenham, in particular? I have no idea. Do I believe they are actually monitoring Maloku? I don't doubt it. He is an exciting prospect. One of very few players who came out of the U17 World Cup with a passing grade.

This is about a minute or two into his senior debut (#19), so close:

Historically the World U17s has proved a very poor indicator of young talent even though it is the highest standard at this age group. By contrast the World U20s and Euro U21s have been fantastic tournaments to scout at and have consistently unearthed young players who have gone on to stellar careers.

Basically you need to wait until a young player has stopped growing before you can judge his prospects. So may players have looked world class at 17-18 years old and have failed to mature physically or developed career ending injuries due to a sudden change in physique. Far better to wait a couple of years and pay a bit more than to gamble on players who are still growing.

How would you compare him to Halilovic, Dinpomp?

Maloku is "all-action." Always ready to go at 100%. Halilovic is a "moment of genius" type of player (can't find a better word). Halilovic is more talented, but I wouldn't be able to guarantee you he'll have a better career than Maloku. It's largely up to him.

Maloku is currently best as a left attacking mid (in a 4-2-3-1, or similar variation). Fearless. Will fight for every ball and is quick and direct. But he can also spot a pass.

Halilovic is primarily played on the right (in a 4-2-3-1, or similar), but is destined to play more centrally (and has done so sparingly).

Is he the next Corluka, Krankjar or Modric?

If none of them, then I don't know what he'll be like!

Unless someone tells me.

Knocked over too easy and then missed!

Looks like he has pace and keen to get forward, would be good to add to the youth squad.
