Emmanuel Adebayor apologises to booing Tottenham fans and insists he has no problem with Daniel Levy
The striker has held clear the air talks with chairman Levy and is contention to feature in Saturday's north London derby

Emmanuel Adebayor has apologised to the Tottenham Hotspur fans who have been booing him and insists he has no problem with chairman Daniel Levy.

As revealed by Telegraph Sport, Levy blocked Adebayor’s transfer deadline day loan move to West Ham United because he would not subsidise the striker’s wages to play for Tottenham’s bitter rivals.

Levy has since held clear-the-air-talks over Adebayor’s position at Spurs, with the 30-year-old ready to stay at least until the end of the season and hoping to be part of head coach Mauricio Pochettino’s squad for the north London derby against his former club Arsenal on Saturday.

Adebayor has been booed by a section of Spurs fans since he was perceived to criticise their support by admitting it had become difficult to play at White Hart Lane after the home defeat by Stoke City.

“I apologise if any of them think that I'm not appreciative of their support,” said Adebayor. “The supporters booed the team and that is their right as they pay good money to see us play.

“I said that we need confidence as every player will play better when the crowd is behind you. I was not having a go at them. I would never criticise the fans. They have been superb with me.”

On his blocked move to West Ham United and his relationship with Levy, Adebayor added: “The club thought it was a good idea that I go out on loan and I was lucky enough to have five really good offers of which I said yes to three of them (PSG, Roma and West Ham).

“When we then decided finally on one club (West Ham), unfortunately it was the one Mr Levy didn't want me to go to as they were a rival team. I understand and respect his decision and, therefore, I will now stay at Spurs. There really isn't a problem. I am very happy here.

“Ideally, I wanted to stay in the Premier League and preferably in London where my family lives. Both West Ham and QPR were based in London, but West Ham were in a more secure position and that attracted me more for a potential long-term move.”

Despite seeing a switch to West Ham blocked by Levy, Adebayor insists he remains fully committed to Tottenham and has not ruled out the possibility of seeing out the final 18 months on his contract.

“I want to give 100 per cent in every game that I play in,” said Adebayor. “If I'm asked to play I will give everything. I want this club to be successful and that means winning the Capital One Cup, qualifying for the Champions League and winning as many games as possible. Starting with Arsenal this weekend.

“Who knows what will happen in football. I have always been happy here. Football is funny, you can go on a run and score 20 goals and everyone loves you again. That is my aim. After that we can see.”

Can he really do it? Can he actually put all the shit behind him and apply himself in a professional manner? I'm not convinced that he can, but I'd love to be proved wrong.

When does his contract run out?

If he's really a free agent in the summer (I am confused as to his contract ends this year or next) he will want to showcase himself now until the end of the season to increase demand for his services and give himself the best chance of getting a contract close to his asking fee and from a club of the stature he wants to play for

Its in my opinion why he wanted a loan move - but I think now if he gets the chance he will start playing to the best of his ability to try and raise his profile

All that said - right now I am not sure his best will be enough to displace the ever improving Kane anyway

God he knows how to manipulate our feelings doesn't he? I can't sit here and criticize him for not wanting to go to QPR, especially now that Harry has resigned.

I'm glad he didn't go to West Ham, especially if we were to subsidize his wages because of course, it would be predictably Spursy for him to sustain them this high up the table with a few goals. Then if he moved permanently he could be a thorn in our side. But with him aging now, that is debatable.

It is a shame PSG or Roma didn't work for him.

Still wouldn't play him unless I absolutely had to in the case of injury. I love Soldado the man too much to not give him more chances if Kane ever suffered an injury.

Well, yes, I guess that might why we are preferring Harry Kane at the moment.

If push came to shove and Kane was injured - I'd play whoever was going to be most effective for the club, my personal like or dislike for either Ade or Solado would have no baring

Team > indivduals

Yeah I grudgingly agree as much as it annoys me. It sucks that Bobby hasn't worked out right now. I'm pleased because Harry has now, but it is so easy to root for Soldado and so tempting to not back Ade.

But they both play for Spurs so I support them. And may God strike me down if I'm ever caught booing any of our players. :dead::angelic:

Yea we all want Soldado to do well

But realistically if we lost Harry the more likely striker to step up and be effective would be Ade I think

Soldado just hasn't worked and is unlikely to ever work - at least Ade has been a success intermittently

The best thing about the failure of these two is it was the catalyst for Harry's rise in my opinion

If we did lose Kane for any period of time though I'm all about ensuring we as a team can get results without him - be it Ade or Bobby I'd play whoever did best

Ade, score me 20 goals and fire us into Champions League football or even higher in the table than that and we'll talk. Is that straight with you?

If he comes into the side and scores 10 goals before now and the end of the season we will all send him off to a new club with a brisk handshake and a pat on the back. If not, well we will slam the door shut behind him.

So just to confirm, for you Ade would be first off the bench to step into Harry's starting role if he went down?

I would put in Soldado and maybe that's where we will disagree. Even if Soldado isn't scoring, which I agree with you is unlikely, he has shown some class to play good passes for assists and to win penalties with skill.
