Is it to do with head to head having priority over overall goal difference? As it stands England and Netherland both beat each other once, and by a single goal each time, so head to head they are both +3 points and level on GD. If England had won 4-2 tonight they'd have beaten Netherlands H2H on GD and so only needed any win over Scotland to finish above them in the table. Can someone explain to me how England scoring a 4th tonight would have meant all they needed to do was beat Scotland?
Because that's what was summarised after the game but Netherlands GD is +4 and England's +1 . Confused

Instead as H2H is level, it goes to overall GD, which now has Netherlands ahead (+4 to +1), so England need to better Netherlands result in the last game, or if both win England must beat Scotland by four goals more than Netherlands beat Belgium.
I think.
Maybe.
