Craig Dolby will drive for Tottenham Hotspur during the 2009 Superleague Formula season, having starred for Anderlecht in the inaugural season of the series.

The 21-year-old Englishman was one of last year’s top performers and is a highly rated competitor.

“I’m over the moon to be back in Superleague and it’s fantastic to be racing for an English club,” said Dolby. “The cars are great to drive and the sound from their V12 engines is just out of this world.

“Superleague was a massive step up for me in 2008 but I learned a lot. I’m now fitter, more mature and ready to build on the podiums I achieved with Anderlecht. Hopefully we can get a win early on and then have a really good crack at the outright championship title.

“I’m there to win it this year and itching to get out on the track.”

The Tottenham squad is thrilled to take Dolby on board, as the team looks to improve on last year’s mediocre results.

"Tottenham Hotspur is delighted that Craig has agreed to be our new driver for the 2009 Superleague Formula season,” confirmed executive director Paul Barber.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank last year’s driver, Duncan Tappy, for his efforts in the Spurs car, and hope Craig will continue to build up our reputation in Superleague.

At such a young age, we feel he is one of the most exciting young drivers around and we are proud to have him representing the Spurs on the track.

"Once again, we are delighted to be lining up on the Superleague grid alongside some of the biggest clubs in world football for another year."

*The 2009 Superleague Formula, which kicks-off on the weekend of June 27/28 at Magny Cours, will be live on Setanta Sports.

Comes out of the blue. No ITK knew about this.

This should also sort out any 'noise' issues we have on match days.

I saw this on newsnow before. I think it's the least interesting Spurs news I have ever heard.

This racing venture is ridiculous, and I wish our football club would withdraw from this ASAP. We're a football club and should stick to that, not waste money and resources on auto racing.

Why don't they do a survey on this? I'd tell them to stuff it anytime.

Can't believe spurs are spending my replica shirt, membership and merchandise taxes on this
