A few thoughts:

1. Fair play to ENIC - long overdue, but most welcome.

2. ENIC are not doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, or some ego-driven need to win. They are expecting a solid ROI on this investment - and I think they will get it.

3. Paratici and Conte have shown in the limited time they have been here, that they can be trusted to spend that kind of money, and improve the squad - I don't think that should be forgotten. ENIC are risk-averse, and Conte and Paratici have helped reduce the risk of squad investment, and made this level of investment palatable.

4. ROI - this can come in a few different ways. First, stadium naming rights. Sponsors love superstars. Spurs have 3 right now - Kane, Son and Conte. If Spurs can add a "name" player this summer - that adds to the allure for Sponsors, and a stadium naming rights could cover this entire investment on its own.

5. Second, the way the club finished the season, and is in the ascendancy, with a "splashy" summer - that would be attractive to potential buyers.

6. TV loves popular clubs, with popular players/managers, with good storylines - expect more games on TV next year.

7. Obviously this announcement would have been known by key people internally - but, making it public, has really put the spotlight on Spurs - and the attention is good. Potential players see that, Conte sees that, Kane sees that, (potential) sponsors see that.

In the end, I think this is really a smart business decision by ENIC, and it will improve the value of the club, by more than the investment itself.

Is there an advantage of telling everyone we have money to spend? Would it not have been better to avoid announcing this to the rest of the world so other clubs don't hike up their prices?

Not being a Debbie downer just curious. It's great news regardless!
Selling clubs will only lose out not selling to us now because we have the cash to spend, we can spend elsewhere. We won't be held ransom, especially not with Conte, not with Paratici, not with Levy around.

This is a massive statement to make. And I'm really glad the club made that so early right after we secured the CL. This IMHO is a making and practise of a huge and financially-sound club. Sponsors and investors will queue up looking for us.

Don't forget good old amortisation for FFP, meaning a £50m player can be written down in the accounts as £10m over 5 years... so you can sign 5x £50m players this summer and you're only spending £50m for FFP considerations. Not £250m now. Even if you actually pay 2x £25m cash for a player over 2 windows. Clear? I thought so!!

& with Fabio and Daniel managing the pursestrings, loans, free transfers, plus clever payment structures, I'm sure the money will be well spent and safely spent

Why announce this now and not in September once the transfer window is shut?

Haven't they just let all clubs know we have a lump of cash burning a hole in our pockets?
I'm guessing it's down to loan covenants and requirement from Banks. With the debt we have on stadium there will be restrictions in terms of what we can spend (likely linked to free cash) so we can't go out and spend whatever we want there are limits which we would need bank approval if we want to spend over X amount.
For our lenders to agree to same they will need written assurances that additional funds are coming in. Likes of written pledges "I promise to give 150m to spurs" wouldn't cut it, they would need to be legal docs and if that's being done then we need to inform shareholders / market of it.

IMO we didn't choose to go this route but were forced to. Would have been better now announcing it now but no choice I assume.

None of those agreements would require public disclosure.

I think this is more about declaring to Conte, Kane, and potential players, that Spurs are serious about upgrading this summer. By making this public - expectations are set, that this is not business as usual for Spurs. It is the "statement of intent" that many have been waiting for.

Very rarely listen to Talksport anymore but stuck it on for a bit on this. What absolute shite they spew. Andy Goldstein begging Darren Ambrose to make some wild claims that he didn’t want to make but they went with it anyway until they got a Gooner on the line (baited) to scream that he bets £1000 we won’t win the Champions League next season.

Where does all the proper football talk hang out?

Podcasts. But even then you have to tread carefully to avoid someone paid to say hyperbolic rubbish.

It's almost like this was planned all along, as soon as we got the stadium up and running, which is pretty much what Levy said ages ago.

As so many have said, we just needed to give them the time to finish that stage of the project and give them time to see it through, rather than all the constant "Enic out" shouting at every opportunity.

Levy is seemingly doing exactly what he said he would.

Levy has recognised that he has a live one in Conte, and that this opportunity might not come around again anytime soon!

Kudos! ?

Wow, we're actually going to go big time. We know Conte wins things when he's backed. And we won't get anyone as good as him anytime soon. So now's the perfect time. Also before Newcastle become the next City.

Inputting of funds via buying of shares do require public announcement.

Given them a lot of deserved stick but they deserve praise.

I know some will say, fairly, admittedly, that they should be doing this anyway. However, ENIC need to know when they get things right so they know that they are not pandering to a bunch of ungrateful shits and that it's all the supporters have been asking for.

Not that they are paying much attention to us, just that it's not a good idea to use the 'it's their job' tone.
