The defender has flourished under Antonio Conte having been made a scapegoat for the club’s struggles by José Mourinho.

It felt like the end of the world,” Eric Dier says, referring to a specific point of last season. The away games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool in mid-December. The first felt like a defeat; the second actually was. Tottenham were top of the Premier League at the time but they were rocked by Jeffrey Schlupp’s 81st-minute equaliser at Selhurst Park and Roberto Firmino’s 90th-minute winner at Anfield.

Remarkable turn around that showed a lot of guts and determination under very difficult circumstances. Conte has found the perfect role for him and he's gone from strength to strength. Has been one of our standout players this season. Can't praise him highly enough.

Improved, yes, a decent CB who generally does well in the air. Evidently good in the dressing room.

But Romero has saved him over and over, and Davies too. Easily turned. Trossard. Sometimes careless with his passing.

Needs competition.

Your bias is blinding you, and it's actually the other way round.

The defence without Dier in it looked shakey, disorganised & basically clueless.

It was pointed out in Diers player thread, how Romero himself has stated that it's Dier who has been instrumental in how he's settled into the county/league.

Suck it up, Cliff. Dier is quality!

i cant disagree more with this. Romero is great but Dier has managed to help him to not get all over the place in terms of position. He has been a pupeteer Dier with how he has managed to organise that defence. Without Dier we have looked headless.

It is all about partnerships and as a partnership Romero helps with Diers deficiencies and Dier has helped with Davies' deficiencies. Partnerships isnt about having the three best or two best defenders but about how they all work and I do think defences are built on partnerships and right now whilst we can make improvements and add quality so they we can rotate, I dont think there is a case of upgrading a specific defender.

I agree with the passing, but you can say the same about any player really.

He’s been great this season. Should be in first choice pairing for England, if he starts next season in the same way.

Not our best but definitely our most important defender. Glad he’s turned it around, mainly because he just comes across as a really decent human.

haha, now he's better than Romero, some of you lot...

He created their only chance so far. Willock turned him so easily right under my nose in the first half, fantastic anticipation and block from Romero. Trossard. Watch it again.

His job is completely different to Romero. Dier's better in the middle and Romero's better on the right. It's perfect.

the clue to the match I might have been referring to was in the opponent's name. Trossard doesn't play for Norwich either.

I gave three examples, evidence to back up my point. Any thoughts on any of these?
