When it comes to forging a career in the cut-throat football industry, few attributes are as valuable to budding young players as versatility.

Rely on it too long, though, and a trait that buys precious time for talent to come to the fore can be the very same trait which prevents true potential being realised.

He's mostly been very good since the restart. Arguably our best CB right now. Sanchez has all the attributes but seems to switch off more than Dier.

Good interview. Sensible clear observations from Dier. The Mourinho effect could unlock a lot of potential.

Yes, although Poch too was building from the back before our Belgians started going to seed.

True but it’s not so much the “playing from the back“ approach where I see the Mourinho effect. I think Mourinho will drill home that “protect our goal with your life” mindset across the team that I think that Dier and Sanchez are missing a bit. They have all the ingredients (as I think a lot of our team has in their respective positions) - athletic and physical ability, technical ball playing ability and also tactical adaptability. It’s that cussedness, that “win at any cost” approach that Mourinho brings. It’s a proven model for success. And he seems to think that we have a decent squad - Toby, Skipp, Dier and I think Tanganga all buying into the Mourinho message. A few more signings and he could take us to the next level.

Sorry if I wasn't clear but that's actually what I meant, not that M and P coach the team to build the play from the back but that building an impenetrable centre back wall was and is the first priority.
