no idea who he is.... but we seem to be interested in him before...

Dier signed professional terms with Sporting in April 2010. The Portuguese club beat Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur,[6] and the team Dier supported as a child, Manchester United,[2] to his signature. Sporting also sold 50% economic rights of the player to a third parties owner, "Quality Football Ireland Limited".[7] Sporting bought back Dier in February 2012 by selling 50% rights of Filipe Chaby. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Dier

gonna be complication with a 3rd party owner. we'll see i guess.

Seems like a smart guy based on the fact he decided to join a good developmental league as an English guy. Seems quite rare. Sporting do have a great academy, and he'll have benefitted from that, and the first team football in the top tier of Portuguese football. Same club as Tiago Ilori too, same position. Hmm...

Saying all that, have not seen him play or owt (y)

I've played against this guy when I stayed at Sporting's academy.

He seeemed to be very much a ball playing centre back, which would explain why AVB wants him. Certainly doesn't fit the "typical English CB" criteria, but that would makes sense as he's been at Sporting since such a young age. Decent in the air, good positionally, and was definitely the leader of their defence. He was a year younger than the actual age group of the team we were playing against, but still led the team well, and that is quite impressive.

Absolutely nothing got past him, but of course it's a massive step up to senior football. £4.2m does seem quite a lot though - we must really rate him if that bid is true.

Despite him being English - he probably would not count as Home Grown since he's never played football here between ages of 18 and 21.

But given that he was born here and would be signing for us at 19?

He would have to go through the academy I think ( I may be wrong) before he would then be a home grown talent, so wouldn't see him for a season or two.

he would have to be registered with the English or Welsh FA for 3 years before their 21's birthday so wont be classed as home grown

Watched him in the U19's, he wasnt as good as I had hoped but in that tournament everyone bar pritchard and one or two were shit tbh.

He does take free kicks and had a good free kick on him but he was abit rash in the tackle. It was interesting because both him and Lascelles were playing in defence having both been linked with us, with our coach Chris Ramsey acting as assistant manager. Lascelles dad did tell me we were try to sign him but that went dead after he signed a contract.

Well this is where the £4.2 came from. A buy out. Chelsea though.

Chelsea are leading the race for England Under 21 defender Eric Dier.

The 19-year-old was a regular for Sporting last season but has a £4.2million buy-out clause.

Chelsea, Inter Milan and Napoli are all in the frame for Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto'o.
