Laporte, Marquinhos, that Gimenez guy from Atletico....

I'm probably forgetting a few as well.
Yeah, can't argue with that, although I'm not sure Laporte or Gimenez would be as good in the PL playing the system we play, but think Marquinhos would. Still doubt you get any of those under 20m.

U21's lol.

No problems @spurs9 we have different view points on Veljkovic position but what seems evident we both believe Veljkovic's a good prospect.
Fair enough. Personally, I consider U21s, U18s& U16s etc to all be youth levels. I don't think U21's is between youth and senior levels but rather the highest youth level. All good though.

Dier's alredy been brilliant value for money IMO.

God knows what we will be saying about the fee if he fulfills his potential and becomes one of the league's best CBs- could be Bale- esque value for money

Martin Keown did a Q&A for the Daily Mail today and this is what he said about Dier. It's very good seeing praise from people like Keown, even if he did play for the scum.

Kurt Zouma has impressed me. Who is the best young defender in the Premier League? Chris, Reading

Keown:

Now there’s a question. It’s interesting, we’ve got a few great English defenders developing, such as Calum Chambers, John Stones and Eric Dier. All of them can play right back and centre back and are showing similar qualities, maturing nicely.

If I had to pick one, I’d go for Dier. The other evening when Tottenham played Liverpool, Dier faced a player in Daniel Sturridge who has got real pace and will embarrass defenders. Dier made one or two elementary mistakes, but when it mattered most, when Sturridge was through on goal, he got in a couple of blocks and had the pace to match him or hurried Sturridge so he missed.

Dier’s got a good combination of power, strength, and he can play too. He may not be as eye-catching as Stones or Chambers, but he’s quicker than the other two. It’ll be an interesting tussle in the coming years who out of the three plays for England.

Keown always seems to be very fair-minded as a pundit - it's really great to see that a defender as good as him rates Dier so highly.

I think Dier's potential is sky-high - so far, he looks likes the best of all our young players to me.

Keown was very complimentary about us on MOTD last night.

He's a brilliant pundit.

He is one of the better pundits for sure. I know someone who's worked with him and he also spoke very highly of him, said he's a really nice guy.

He's always been very unbiased and level headed in his punditry, without being monosyllabically inane like Shearer.

Hodgson really needs to start fast tracking these youngsters into the England squad. We really don't want to be persevering with Jagielka, and Cahill has a limited lifespan.
We've already seen we have a huge pool of talent that is under 25, Hodgson just needs to have the balls to commit the future of English football to the kids.

Poch must persist with the Dier/Jan partnership in domestic games, Dier is young and will learn not to switch off as he does now, but he has so much going for him....Fazio should replace him in europe.

I couldn't stand him as a pundit at first, he was awful, stilted, and couldn't contain his obvious Arsenal bias.

He's matured into a really genuinely good pundit, much more confident and insightful, and is now very even-handed and objective. I think he's quite unsung in the world of pundits.

As for Dier, I think he's looking like a stunningly astute purchase. He has absolutely everything to reach the very top of his game, and we'll do well to hang on to him long term.

6'2", strong, quick, comfortable with the ball, capable of filling in at full back, seems to have a great attitude and he's English. What's there not to like? The only thing he lacks is experience. Give him 3 or 4 years and he'll be right up there with the leagues best.

Because of his pace we may well have a new king on our hands. I actually hope he talks a lot to Ledley, would be nice if he took him under his wing in an advisory capacity.

Playing alongside Jan and having Ledley in and around the club can only be a good thing. If I were in Dier's shoes I would be taking every opportunity to chew the fat with these two, both of them fantastic defenders in their own right.

I think he's better than Jan already though, mate. :D

Tbf to Jan, he's quietly gone about his business in the last few games and has been much more solid overall. Love that he doesn't whine anymore...or pull anyone's shorts down.

One of the things I noticed the competitive streak that dier has. this is something I am noticing through the squad. Against pool both kane and dier showed a little bit of nasty in their characters and were clearly very irritated at the prospect of losing, regardless of the fact it was at Liverpool. When you add bentaleb, rose, Mason and Walker to that we are assembling a young, very hungry team of aggressive little fuckers who hate losing. Even lamela, bless him, leaves a foot in and gets aggressive.

Back to dier, been impressed from the very beginning. His pace has just been a bonus, the lad is super rapid. I actually can't think of a single cb that could match sturridge of 30 yards the way he did the other night.

I think I may have mentioned it before but at every youth level he played, whatever club (except Spurs of course), he has been promoted to captain. Not bad considering this was in Portugal where the language wasn't his first.
