What do we make of this chart yesterday show how little activety and impression Dier makes vs on the ball defending?

I don't have too much of a problem with him being our middle Centre Back next year if we get a very good LCB next to him. The middle CB position is relatively easy to play in if you are a good talker, not sure how organized we've been at times though, Him jumping out vs Brighton nearly cost us big in the run in and players like Connor Coady been able to play in a good Wolves team for years because hes allowed to hide in the middle of a defence and can just talk people through games.

Remember Conte won the league with Luiz as his middle centre back and he was a poor player so I don't have too many concerns about Dier playing for Spurs in the middle but Dier can definitely be upgraded if there is a calm passing defender who can dominate at Set Pieces. Would like to see our backline score more goals at corners and free kicks, Dier isn't very good in both boxes.

Totally disagree. One of our best players last year and one of the first on the team sheet next year. We missed him massively when he was injured.

That is a good point. I think Romero struggled in the middle to organize and we lacked calmness in the two games we lost to Southampton and Wolves.

I would only want to replace him if we could get a leader/talker in the middle and a more capable passer.

Dier’s goal scoring record is surprisingly poor, especially given his aerial ability in defence.

No goals in the the last 3 seasons. Only one headed goal since 15/16 season (Arsenal away 18/19).

2 out of his 10 PL goals was scored in his opening two games for the club.

And...? I'm more interested in how many cleans sheets we have with him in the team and how many clearances, blocks and interceptions.

Well that goes without saying, but it’s clearly important to lessen the goal scoring burden on Kane and Son and set-pieces is an important part of that.

Gabriel at Arsenal for example scored 5 goals last season whereas all our centre backs scored 4 goals - Sanchez (2), Davies (1), Romero (1).

Foolish to think we shouldn't be scoring goals from our back line. Top teams find big goals at set pieces and it takes the pressure off the team.

With the middle of defence being such a limited role in a 3, if you could find a defender that could play there and do the simple things Dier does BUT score goals it would be a major bonus for the team. Sergio Ramos would be amazing for us and could be a Thiago Silva type signing.

Appreciate mixed feelings on him though for me he is one I love. Stepped up this season and full of passion. He is a keeper!

Did we score many goals from set pieces this season? Is the issue the players or the quality of the ball in? Doesn't feel like we have a genuine free kick or corner taker.

I feel like Son's delivery is pretty good from set pieces tbh and i'm pretty sure he takes almost all of the ones from crossing positions these days.....definitely less frustrating than when eriksen used to take them i know that much!

Get a few quid in the pot and people are looking to replace our most consistent performer last season? Bigger picture people! Lots of higher priorities than replacing Dier, who by the way Conte has said(multiple times) could be one of the best in the world in that role.

Easy to be consistent when you play in the middle of defence and don't have to do much active defensive work. Wolves have played Conor Coady in the centre of a 3 for years and hes not very good generally. Its a relatively easy position to play and throughout history players that have played there are either great organizers with a strong understanding of the game or exceptional passers.

Wolves finished in the top 10 this season in the EPL with Coady at the back just chillin'

I've seen no real talk of replacing Dier but hes very replaceable. Could get more out of the position but I have no problem with Dier playing for Tottenham next year if it means we upgrade in other more pressing positions.

Literally blows my mind. As in literally - my mind is blowing up. The lack of respect for how long Eric has been with us, how big a part of the new Tottenham he is and how good he was last season. Also, I'm in Portugal and they absolutely love him here.

I'm not interested in the stats mate because they are rarely useful without context. I can tell how well a player is playing by watching them, and Dier has performed very well and consistently this season. The centre CB is always going to be less involved stat wise when the players in front and either side are performing well. His job is to organise them. If he had to make 5 tackles and interceptions a game I'd be more worried because it would mean thiose around him were leaving him heavily exposed all the time. The CCB is there to organise and make sure everyone else is where they are supposed to be and to mop up if everything else goes to shit. He's done that very well.

Diers role isn't to make tackles he sweeps the back line. It's romero and Davies who have to be front foot aggressors.

I'd like to see his blocks/clearances/interception stats
