fair play to Eric. A versatile player who has always shown the right attitude and gives everything. Imagine being vilified by the absolute nobodies of Internet forums.

He definitely had his best years with us under Poch as a DM and would then slot in as an extra CB at corners and set pieces etc - it seemed to work perfectly and we were solid at the back then, but he us definitely not suited to be a CB in a high line.
Been a great servant to the club and always seemed to do his best (who can ask for more), but maybe he has reached the end of the trail with us but doesn’t deserve any hate.

His best period with us was a very brief spell under Conte in a three at the back in 2021-2022. Pretty much all of us were aghast that he wasn’t being called up to the England squad. It wasn’t that long ago. He has fallen way off the pace since then unfortunately. Would be best for him to have a new start somewhere else now.

Give it 24hrs and he and Shadydan will be spamming TFC threads with their hatred of SC and tales of how they were driven out "just for having an opinion".
Gosh a blast from the past Shadydan, I remember him and another here.... I mistakenly shared some negative frustrations on Lamela.....boy oh boy was that a mistake... oh Shadydan also took exception to me saying Liverpool were showing ambition when they signed Virgil Van Dyk in December before the window opened...

From that day I was his enemy...but look what they went on to achieve.

So tired of this “great servant” nonsense.

Tenure and service aren’t the same thing.

He’d have been gone years ago, but no better club was ever going to pay him a comparable amount for playing in a comparable way to how he has here.

The bar our fanbase set for some players is so low it’s actually on the floor.

If you consult social identity theory it's quite telling. It's a tribal sport that attracts people who seek a sense of belonging and consider their affiliation with the team as an extensiion of their own identity. In a positive sense this breeds a increase in social self-esteem, sense of belonging and pride. It also breeds spikes in self-esteem and positive emotions after e.g. a win. In a negative sense it also increases negative emotions, humiliation, resentment and anger following e.g. a loss.

Some react to this within acceptable social norms. Others who act agressively at games or in online communities often display narcissistic traits, low self-esteem and react with agression to any percieved slight to an already fragile self-concept.

So in a sense we are all mindless ****s with low self-esteem, seeking beloning. Some of just don't need to be pricks to surive the ordeal.
Desmond Morris wrote a great book on this subject; believe it was ‘the tribe’

Again, nonsense hyperbole.

As an England player, regular in a side which finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th three times, and been repeatedly picked by a succession of top managers, he very clearly isn't "Championship defender at best", is he?

If he played in the Championship he'd be the best defender in it by a mile and PL clubs would be trying to sign him.

What he is, is a competent and capable central defender who when played in the right system will be an asset for most Premier League sides.

Can we please just stop this exhausting "Championship player" bollocks every time people don't like someone.
And yet nobody in the PL seems to want him. Yes, wages might be too much for a Luton but there’s plenty of others who could afford him and, from The outside, use him. But still nothing. I think he’s definitely at the Harry Winks stage now.

edit: ED is quite comparable to Conor Coady really. In that in-between level of talent. Sometimes good enough to get an England spot, other times looking very Championship level.

Funny how Sanchez and Dier have both declined since Pochettino left, particularly in the last two seasons..

Man utd offered 50m for him.

He was a key member in the best team spurs have had in over 34 years.

He gets way less respect than someone like klinsmann

Klinsmann is a strange (and IMO poor comparison). He was a world class player when we signed him, Dier never has been close to that bracket. He was also second choice during the peak Poch era, only starting when injuries hit the likes of Wanyama & Dembele.

I don’t dislike the guy but for me he’s not been good enough to start for us for a while now. I can’t see him leaving this window but I’m pleased the contract renewal talk had died down lately. I also very much doubt he removed links to spurs on his socials for any reason related to football (certainly not in a strop Re the captaincy).

Understand the reference, but we show more love and respect for a guy who ditched is quite quickly. Heck, even steffen Freund gets more respect, and he was way worse.

Dier has become a focus point of all that is wrong in spurs, and that's unfair on him.

Yes, he should move on, but he does deserve respect.
