Unfortunately we do still need him even if he is the 5 choice. Phillips might flop and not cope this season.

Dier might flop and not cope this season. At least Phillips can turn and run fast enough.

Davies is 4th choice. Let Phillips be 5th choice or go with a back 3 and use Davies / Royal.

Dier is then 6th choice at best in a season without Europe.

Even then I'd rather use Dorrington.

If we played a low block he'd be competent squad fodder, but we don't.

Time to move on and build the future.

Appreciate everything he's done for the club, been a great servant and 100% committed. He's also a really nice guy but it's time to rip that contract up and send him on his way. No chance he's included in the list of players this season. Same goes for Hugo.
It looks like he might be purely by default. It looks as though numbers wise we only need to leave 2 out. One will certainly be Hugo so it's a toss up between Tanguy and Dier for the other spot. Unless I've missed someone out that is.

He’s finished here. Time for his fan club to accept it.

That's me, and I do.

I preferred him to Sanchez and think people jumped too much at a few promising spurts by Davinson early doors, I was baffled by people who were adamant we should get rid of him *even if we sold Sanchez and bought noone*, and who thought his situation as a very regular starter under our most recent managers should be viewed identically to people whove barely played and been farmed out on loan.

Now that Sanchez has stayed and we've bought noone, I'm probably more risk averse and would have kept him as an experienced Prem player who can be a pretty high calibre backup choice.

But I appreciate and do admire the choice to grasp the opportunity afforded by less games to properly refresh and trim the side, at his expense.

I do also wonder if this is more of a necessity given HG numbers, and people just like to to read in mafioso narratives of ruthlessness when it might be a fairly conciatory sorry but something had to give, situation.

Surely we won't register Tanguy??!!

If that part is ITK @Hotspur88 then it makes even less sense why we didn't move for a CB if we end up not registering Dier anyway.

Kelly was getable but we didn't give Bournemouth enough time / options in the market to replace.

Chalobah seemed attainable.

Various non HG options.

Bizarre.
Hopefully we return for Tapsoba next year. Dier and Sánchez will be out by then, and this should leave space for the likes of Dorrington and Phillips to be loaned and afterwards integrated into the first team.

We will obviously not be getting Tapsoba and that ship sailed when we signed VDV. He’s clearly the starter and we won’t be going for a rotation player of that established quality / price

There is no lingering complications etc from his surgery in May that have stopped him participating in games to date? If Sanchez goes then could Dier still feature? *Based on absolutely nothing. I just can’t understand how you could completely freeze out a player unless something has happened.

You sign a contract to train not to play.

Sport is entirely meritocratic. What you've done in the past is irrelevant to whether you'll be picked today.

Dier once played well for Tottenham because he was good enough.

He's no longer good enough, especially now we play a system which exposes his greatest flaws.

It isn't about being mean or punishing him.

He can't be in the squad because he's no longer fast enough. It's that simple.

We can't change our entire team set up every time Dier takes the field.

He isn't owed anything more than a professional working environment and his monthly contract.

He knows perfectly well the football reasons why he won't play.

His stance on seeing out his contract over playing football, gives Ange every right to say I don't want that around the players I'm moving forward with.

It's sad how it's ended for him, but it's entirely his choice for it to happen this way.

He's chosen making a financial choice (imo a bad one) over sentiment, which he's entitled to do.

But then we're even less obliged to reciprocate that with sentiment. Which we weren't anyway because Sport is meritocratic.

Phillips's the future, Dier the past. Promote him and move on.

Yeah I get all that but still no reason to effectively punish him for wanting to honour the contract that we gave him.

What player worth their salt wants to sign to be a rotation player? Either way, we will be in a good position next year to bring in some quality and will have those non-HG spaces available again which makes a big difference.

He's been fantastic for us at times, he's been one of our own and has dedicated most of his career to us.

Just because his time at the club is coming to an end and we are now playing a style of football that doesn't suit his skillset, there is no reason to turn against him.

He shouldn't have to move to a town or place he doesn't want to live or a club he doesn't want to play for just because we now want him off our books.

We scream for loyalty from players, but it works both ways. Don't let us become a fan base of dicks and start attacking our own.

Let's appreciate the great things Dier brought to our club. Yes he has his limitations now and yes he doesn't suit playing a high line, but don't let that sour the good memories we shared over the years.

I for one wish Eric Dier all the best and he will always be welcome as part of the THFC family.

Ange is currently re-uniting the club again, he is bringing back the feel good factor. We as fans have a role to play in that too.

Let's create an atmosphere where players want to be part of the THFC family, where players know if they choose to spend their careers with us we will look after them too, even when their careers come to an end.

Dier's time at this club is coming to an end, let's make sure he leaves still feeling wanted and appreciated.

His song isn't...

I love Eric Dier, until he becomes a bit shit and then we turn on him.

So please, let's show some class

I wonder if Dier now gets added in the squad now Sanchez is gone.

Phillips clearly 3rd choice after being named on the bench vs Burnley, question is who is 4th choice in Ange’s mind:
-Dorrington
-Emerson at RCB?
-Davies at LCB?
-Dier?

Is Dorrington fast?

Of those options I think if he can be coached there then Emerson would be my preference as 4th choice, Davies against bottom half opponents but we are now quite light and I’m intrigued to see Ange’s plan and/or if we go for a CB in Jan, surely we’d need to.

I’m guessing a young one who is happy to bide their time and learn their trade.

I love Eric Dier. Eric Dier loves me.

Would like him to protect me like he did his brother from OUR fans. Guy never said a bad word about the club and always gave 100% even through his illness and health issues. So yes I am in his fan club and yes it is time to go. And he deserves so much credit for being there for Dele as well. Top, top human being. Much better than some of our so called fans who loves to abuse their own players. Glad Sanchez can move on from it now.

But what is with this obsession with some on here of having to call out others like it's a wrestling promo? We're all here because we love Tottenham. Let's stop this division once and for all.

Davies will def be considered LCB im sure. He played there pre season. I’m sure it will be Davies LCB and Phillips RCB.

On a side note. Does anyone know what Dier has been like in training? Has he been not putting in the effort?

I just really fear for Davies at LCB against any top 10 side tbh. We shall see how it plays out.

The whole Dier thing seems interesting, did he do or say something to upset Ange or Ange jusr very very clear that Dier isn’t for him.

I wonder if Ugodgie might be used in a pinch. He’s more suited to the role than Davies funnily enough, he’s fast, tall, good in one on one’s. Davies has shown that he’s more than capable of filling in as an inverted fullback, and has the intelligence and engine to make clever runs in the final third.

Sounds bonkers swapping them, but for what’s needed in this system it makes sense to me.

That is a really interesting shout actually mate yea I’d prefer in that scenario to swap them round.

If Ange does that and you called it first 100 points to griffindor for you.

More of an has he been training with 1st team or is he completely out of picture?

Bailly signing for Besiktas, think loan move for Istanbul giants is best there could be for Eric right now, but could be there are no slots left. He is still an active pro, so Saudi shouldn't come into contention and Greece league is below Turkish league. Any other transfer windows open?

100% this, fans will cry blue murder if a player wants out but when they deem a player no longer a decent fit, it is cut him, rip up his contract and genuine spite if he doesnt accept whatever offer comes their way.

I was hopeful Dier would move on, still kind of am (however unlike a Suadi or Turkey move is). If not though, no spite, he stays in the squad and he gets called upon if required.
