Guy's body is finished, he can't even engage attackers anymore. it's like the opposite of Romero, where he is too harsh, Dier is too weak.

However its not his fault he is having to be used, club screwed up big time in the window not getting at least 1 other CB and now we pay the price.

In a way I feel sorry for him, he isn't capable of the role but he is being used due to lack of options.

Just watched the goals again at home. Seeing in person was painful enough.

1st goal, just had to keep possession, not play a shit ball that puts his teammate under pressure. Couldn't do either of those two things. Just gives it away. Goal

2nd goal, just stops running, not tracking his man, let's Lemina have a free fucking shot. Also PEH was running back.... but doing bugger all else. Dier needs to track and stay goalside. Goal.

Pathetic.

Should never have been moved to defence.
I think his appendicitis and operation forced that tbh. Before that, yes, he was turning into a very good DM. But his mobility is shot... Look how much bulkier he is now compared to 4/5 years ago.

It's sad, but I don't think he can cope much longer at this level.

Yeah it’s such a shame.

Even if he was still physically sound i think he lacks the defensive instincts and leadership qualities needed to be a good centre back.

And he is giving his best and has been a loyal servant of the club. He's not suited to our style of play, but it's not his fault.

Controversial as it sounds I think I'd play Phillips and Dorrington until Romero's back.
I think Davies has shown enough to start and with Udogie back it won't be left back. I wouldn't start both the youngsters but one alongside Davies.

I mean it was obvious what was going to happen. Cheers Romero. Two more games to go until he’s back. Watkins going straight into my fantasy team ahead of playing them next. He’ll feast on Dier unfortunately.

Absolutely would prefer a Phillips Dorrington partnership at this point
That pairing shipped in 3 goals against Peterborough United and only have 1 clean sheet in 4 games. I have high hopes for both in the future but pairing them in a PL game now would see us concede even more and would be detrimental to their confidence.

Everyone has the answer, till the answer they had is no longer the answer, then it’s someone else fault!

This is what a lot of people ignore in this situation. You can’t just throw kids to the wolves and hope it all works out.

He realises that he will never get a statue after his near decade of service so he is just being one on the pitch. Without davies having a game I didnt think he was capable of we would have shipped 5.

It's a constant thing on this site.

"This first team player isn't good enough, so this youngster we know nothing about must be better."

We've seen it numerous times in the past. This year, it's Phillips.

An 18 year old who couldn't get into a mid table Championship side, has to be ready for a Prem side looking for top 4. It's insane.

I agree, it's crazy. But then again, you're never going to get a balanced view on a football forum.

I don't think anyone has said Phillips is better than Dier? Just they would prefer to see him make mistakes than Dier. I think its fair to want to see how he does especially as we have no pace at all in centre back atm. Once Romero is back then him alongside Davies will be fine though. Its just the Dier and Davies combination fans are tired of so just want something new.
