Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere & I've somehow missed it? I came across it on Twitter, found it interesting, so thought I'd share it, and hopefully someone will be able to access even more info on other players. Anyway, this is what I'm on about........

I think the key for a player like him is getting him on the ball in the right areas as much as possible. The key to that is his fitness. Last year he did well when he was involved but was a passenger otherwise. He still can be very quiet but now he has the fitness to fight for the right to play. You see this in the late goals he scores and the fact that he is often more influential in the latter stages of matches.

I still think he needs to dictate more but there has been a clear improvement this season.

It's his willingness to compete for headers, and track back almost all the time, that have stood out the most to me in comparison to last season. He's definitely much more 'dogged', and seems to have realised that he either works bloody hard or he sits on the bench. Hopefully others will follow suit & we'll be better for it.

But in response to the question, I think he has become a more complete player. He has impressed me with his defensive effort this season. Him and Lamela have both been above and beyond in their defensive duties.

Yep. This is why he's quiet in a lot of matches, because for whatever reason, we can't really feed him the ball in that no.10 position. I said in another thread a while ago that when we signed him, I thought that he was going to be the player to start everything for us and keep things ticking, I don't think he'll ever be that player unfortunately, but if we can start to consistently get the ball to him around the box he could be great for us and will get many goals and assists for sure.

Or maybe he's a better play as he's a year older.
I don't think that is it - he has improved this season. His intensity on the pitch is so much better/more focused now than it was at the beginning of the season. He is not ready to put in a full shift as a defensive winger anytime soon, but he tracks back better, closes down better, and occasionally gets stuck in.

Still room for improvement, but I'd say he has made big progress from the free reign he was given under Sherwood, to the more disciplined role he has to play under Pochettino.

Might get shot down for this one... I think he is similar to Nasri, he can easily win a game but can also be totally anominous, we need to get another midfielder to dictate the play and keep him as far forward as possible to get goals & assists.

I just think he needs to bulk up a bit, still a bit weedy, gets outmuscled too easily. Beef him up and he could be a bit of a magical monster!

As much as I wish I could claim he's clearly improved defensively as a result of Poch, or use these stats against the fact that he played so much on the left last season against @Blake Griffin, the comparison here has to be taken with the asterisk that last season was his Prem debut season, and that he struggled initially that fall until Holtby lit a fire under his ass.
