Evening all,

I watched our match against Olympiacos on this new channel today, and was gob smacked by how scrap the commentators were!

Did anyone else notice that on a couple of occasions Joe Royale said "Spurs still have Downing to come into the team in three months when he recovers from injury?"

I mean that is a really bad blunder to say once but then to say it twice in the same game.... haha

Over all though I thought there was not much difference between the standard view and the HD view...

I thought Crouch was quality and the winning the ball in the air is going to add something I have always said we have been missing for years.

Well it wasn't in HD so thats why there wasn't much difference there
Joe Royale was aweful, but the other bloke was fine. I'm just glad it was on.

some of the worst i've ever heard

They commented like they sat in their own livingroom opening their second bottle of whiskey

Personally I'm very happy that ESPN has now bought out Setanta's rights to the EPL. as over here in Guate. although we do have Fox Sports that covers 3-4 games over the weekend, ESPN's participation is an added bonus.
Fortunately I don't have to put up with stupid commentators such as Joe Royale as over here it's all in Spanish and believe me, most of the latin commentators know their business, even if they are a little partial to the top 4. But until Spurs or other teams beat the lock these 4 have on the Premier League its little wonder they know the names of Man Ure, Bin dippers, Chelski and Arse anal players better.

I prefer it when the commentators are shit, it's funny.

If the commentators are good do you sit there and stroke your chin in agreement? it's entertaining when they're crap.

I gotta say this, I absolutely love the Amercan sports commentators. Not for their terminology, but for the enthusiasm and constant talking on every aspect of the game and surroundings of the game in hand.
Sometimes our commentators are just plain boring, each to his own I suppose and some may like it that way.

Not me.

 Totally argee, i love american commentators just because that make it sound like everything is an art, even ten-pin bowling or world championship farting can be turned into "classics"

i agree, and I also like their terms, i.e. Off-field. You can see why games like baseball and american football are so tactical. It's embedded in their terminology.

The Downing gaff (x2) was horrendous, and even the commentator didn't pick him up on it so they are both guilty. Seriously, Joe Royle was chosen to provide his sound knowledge and experience of the game (we assume) and he is not even aware of who plays for who. Shocking. Give him the bullet.

I thought Joe Royale was okay, the other commentator was the idiot. He was slating Gomez and Royale said something along the lines of "Actually he's a pretty decent keeper and loads of clubs are interested in him"

Although Royale claimed Defoe was just offside when the replay showed he was clearly onside on two separate occassions!
